Coolant level max and min markings

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My new CR 170 vRS has the spherical coolant header tank and the manual says there should be a max and min marker on the side, but there is so much gubbins up against it I can't see it. When cold the coolant level looks a tad low to me (I see about an inch of pink at the bottom) but for all I know this may be within range. Please advise... emoticon-0100-smile.gif

Thanks,

Bob.

There is a joke in there somewhere.........

There is indeed a max and min marker on the right hand side of the header tank as you look at it from the front of the car.

IIRC the normal hot coolant level is about an inch below the plastic seam that runs around the middle of the tank.

If it gets too low it will trigger a low coolant alarm on your dash. Only top up with G12 coolant.

Yes I did almost add a "fnar fnar" or "ooer missus" when I posted emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Thanks for the reply, I'll check when hot. No light on the dash so I guess all is well.

It should be about two thirds full, ish :)

Mine has been recently sitting about the middle of the max /min since I got it new about 8000miles ago. Just topped it up to the max with about 2/3 G2+ and 1/3 deionsed water. Hoping I'm not losing coolant to the dreaded porous head monster.

When my cylinder head was unknowingly cracked I was getting the low coolant warning light every 3 days or so.

As long as the coolant level is at least at the min marking and is consistent I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
