Windscreen condensation an observation

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the compliment Plymouth Red! I use variations on other forums.

Replacing the pollen filter has stopped the smell of flatulence which was pervading my car (not from me I can assure you) but the condensation problem is still there. The old filter was not damp but was black and contained a few dead moths - it was two years old. I have had a dehumidifier in the car for days and nights now to no avail and I can find no damp carpets anywhere.

Today I set off with no condensation visible and drove for 50 minutes through sleet and snow, parked for two hours and returned to a car totally fogged up inside.

I do wonder whether the problem is more a lack of ventilation than anything else and whether removing the pollen filter altogether might help. Does anyone know if the aircon control flaps close when the car ignition is turned off? If so, this would result in a lack of ventilation overnight or when parked. Whatever the cause, it is certainly a problem.

  • 4 years later...

Hi,

I suffered with bad moisture inside my Fabia windscreen, during winters,  for two years.

My problem turned out to be leaking rear door seals.  The local garage replaced them and did a 'water test' (so they told me... I imagine this involves bloke with hose) to check it was then ok.

And, bingo it sorted the problem completely.

Before using heavy Air Con, or buying a moisture absorbing gadget, or changing out yur filters, try looking under the carpet by the rear door for signs of moisture after rain.  Could be you have the same problem.

My MK2 Octy just knows when I'm running late, then it's like the windscreen has been turned round!

Wonder if I can fit interior wipers..................................... :D

5 degrees C displayed, dry but humid.

Windscreen clear for once!

Within 10 seconds of starting the condensation streaks began.

30 seconds and 100 metres later I had to pull over as i couldn't see where i was going.

It took 10 minutes to wipe and defog the damn thing.

FYI don't use a microfibre cloth, it just smears the condensation instead of absorbing it.

A shammy is best.
