High Level Brake Light Condensation

Featured Replies

Anyone experienced problems on the estate with condasention

When it went in for service the dealer changed the light unit but condensation still there. Obviously will take it back - just wondered how common?

Still an ongoing problem any other sufferers?

Has anyone got a description as to how to remove the high level brake light?

Well this time of year there is a lot of humidity in the air that combined with cold temperatures on the glass leads to condensation forming. Obviously you can clear it on the windscreen with the blower heater and the rear screen with the heated elements but it is left on side windows and other areas like light housings (and the latter when the unit is semi sealed will probably be worse because when your interior air gets warm and drier with your heater on it will take a good while to even out and eveporate the moisture in the unit. Of it really worries you then one possible solution would be to carefullly drill a couple of very small ventilation holes in the interior plastic light housing (not near the bulb or electirc cables!) as this willl speed up the dry air in a warmed up cabin getting into the light unit and so should stop so much mositure being trapped in there to cause the condensation. Also there will almost certainly be condensation in the other light units (front and back) but this gets burned off with the heat of your bulbs when you have them on, but because the high level break light is not permenantly on the bulb nevver gets hot enough to do this, hence the trick of allowing moisture vapour to escape quicker and be replaced by warmer and drier cabin air.
