Volatge Regulator

Featured Replies

Hey there folks.

So I think I may need to replace the voltage regulator soon but just need some input on the symptoms etc.

At the moment my two main symptoms are that when revved pretty hard the battery light illuminates then since this has been happening the lights are fairly dimm but get brighter if I rev the engine.

I know the regulator comes complete with the little bushes that press on the rotating shaft of the alternator. Could these be wearing out?

I can grab one off fleabay for £12 so they're not expensive.

Phil

Just had mine done. Similar symptoms to yours, alternator charge light flickering on and off, headlights flickering all the time. I also put a meter on mine and the voltage was all over the place.

yeah just replace it phil, you don't even have to take the alternator off the engine

Of course, you could be a complete idiot like my son; and pay a garage £107 to do it for you.

:o How on earth did they justify that?

yeah 107 notes seems to be a bit excessive to me. a genuine voltage regulator is about £25 from the skoda dealer, but they will want the old one back as a core for exchange

When mine failed, my airbag light came on and had to be reset via vagcom, so you might need to consider getting that done too.
