Wheel advice please

Featured Replies

I need some advice from you guys. I've just got a set of 16" Skoda 'Knife' alloy wheels for my vRS

The plan was to buy a set of winter tyres for them and use them over winter, then switch back to the vRS wheels in the warmer weather. Trouble is, now I've got them I think I prefer them to the original wheels, and I'm starting to think it would be a lot less hassle to just swap them and forget about winter tyres. They also look a lot easier to clean :giggle:

So, what would you guys do? The vRS wheels were new in April 2009 (replaced under warranty) so there's no corrosion or bubbling on them - just a few light surface scratches on a couple of them where a ham fisted tyre fitter marked them :@ Do you think the bare vRS wheels would sell readily? What would they be worth? Would I be better selling them as a set or individually?

Oh, and I don't suppose anyone could do a quick photoshop of the new wheels onto a standard ride height red vRS for me? Might help me decide ;)

OK, so a quick lash up in powerpoint using donor photos from the Fabia Alloys thread gives this;

What do you think? (Please restrict your comments to how the wheels look rather than criticise my pathetic IT skills :giggle: )

Look quite nice :) And as you say, will be a lot easier to clean :)

look better on the bottom picture

I know you said not too, but thats the worst image editing i've ever seen

If you link to the original photo i'll do a quick shop for you when i get chance

I think they do look good. Used 16" vRS alloys sell very well, and I'd say that you should be able to get £150-£200 for a good set of unmolested bare wheels.

That said, when you come to sell the car you will want to put the originals back on to maximise resale value, so I'd wrap them up and tuck them away somewhere.

Keep both set of wheels and on the least favourite mount the winter tyres.

Hard to find decent images of these alloys, not seen many of them about :) quite nice

Sorry for taking the ****, i forget not everyone is a geek like me :giggle:

Nice work  . Think that pretty much convinces me to swap the wheels over.

All I need to do now is decide whether to keep hold of the originals or sell them on. Should they stay or should they go???

Keep all the original parts of your car, especially the wheels. When you come to sell the car most buyers will want the original bits back on the car, they will not want insurance issues, well at least the choice. Then you can sell your parts for a bit more pocket money.

Got them fitted :)

Not the best photo I've ever taken (it was starting to get dark after they were fitted) but you get the idea.

And before you all start, no I'm not going to get it lowered! Too many potholes and speed bumps :giggle:

Sorry prefer the standards.

If they were as big as the photoshopped ones in #10, look like 17"s they would look better.

Nice clean red example though.
