Rear washer hose question

Featured Replies

I've gone and popped the hose off on the way home from work today as it must have frozen in the car park - down to 0 degrees here.

Anyway, I've partially pulled the cover off in the boot and found the end of the hose. I need to know where the hose goes back as if I can do it by feel, then the boot trim doesn't have to come all the way off. All I need to know is where roughly the connection is and I'll have a fiddle around. A pic of what things look like would also help.

Thanks,

Andrew.

p.s. I wonder if Rob C will have a pic in his extensive library?

Hi,I did this job (re-attaching the tube) last week.Pain in the arse getting the trim off, even more of a pain putting it back.

I resorted to force in the end & I broke one clip & was so cross by then I threw the trim in the road in disgust.

To answer your question,I doubt you could do it without removing it,as the connection is literally right behing the wiper,on the motor itself,so it's very close to the furthermost point under that plastic trim.

although thinking about it,if you can free the front edge clips (closest to you I mean),which you have prob done,as they are easy, then set about freeing the next 2 clips (I freed the right one,but the left one would not release,& that's the one that I broke),then you may be ok,as you may be able to bend the trim down enough to do the job, without freeing the back edge clips.

Had mine not come off under huge force from me,to the extent that I almost fell over backwards,& the whole thing came off, then with hindsight,it may have been possible.

It was re-attaching/aligning those back edge clips that caused me the most grief, because it's akward cos you can't see what you are doing.

If you are short, with short arms, allow plenty time & plenty swearing.I am 6' and I found it a bugger

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I'm 6ft so there'll be a lot of swearing I guess. So the hose attaches to the motor somewhere then?

Hi there, I would not recomend pulling the rear part down to do that job. You may end up breaking the plastic locating lugs.

Also I doubt you will be able to locate the wiper motor asm to refit the hose

Removing the trim is not too bad providing you have a helper. The metal clips that hold the rear of the trim are a stupid idea and are supossed to make life easier on removal and refitting but they end up popping off the hatch and being stuck to the trim.

I would get a helper to hold the trim whilst you carefully pull off the front bit (section nearest you) then whilst the extra person is holding the rear part on one side you both pull down on the rear. Should come off with the clips.

Refitting is the opposite. First pull the clips off the plastic trim (noting the direction they should be refitted) and fit them back on the hatch. Then with your helper slowly offer up the rear part to the metal clips. You can see the locating points on the outer clips at both ends so as long as those are pushed up ok the rest will locate.

Then offer up the front part of trim (nearest section, remembering to pull through the grab handle) and push trim into the locating holes

and when you refit the pipe put a small tie wrap around it !!!!!!

Thanks for all the advice guys. It's all sorted now and there's a cable tie around the hose just in case. I managed to do it without taking the panel all the way off. It's a bit of a knuckle scraper, but better than taking everything off.

I was going to do that, but I'm sure I read somewhere not to,because if the pressure builds up (as in frozen & expansion),then as we know the tube at the rear of the motor gives out,but if cable tied, then it will split at the next weak point, which is somewhere very hard to access in the cabin.

Well done Skinneyman, glad you sorted it.

I have had a cable tie on mine for 3 years without a problem whereas my friends has since come off again soaking his boot lol

I guess time will tell with regards to the cable tie. The info was really good though. As usual, Briskoda community proves itself to be one of the best out there. :)

I've still not sorted mine, it doesn't work and yet if i use it there is no water evident in the boot or anywhere else that i can tell!

Any suggestions?

Not coming out behind the CD autochanger, is it?

Your issue is probably the washer jets themselves being blocked. The jet comes out on the wiper arm. You could try and poke a needle down the end to unblock them, but the jets might need replacing. This are around £6 at Skoda.

Cheers for both those suggestions, i'll have a look tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Mine did this last year, and after a lot of searching on here (thanks for the advice) i managed to remove the boot cover and re-attach the hose. I also took the time to remove and wash out the jets while i was at it.

I had problems replacing the boot cover. Being 6ft 2in and trying to re-attach it myself caused a lot of headaches and scraped knuckles. I made the mistake of not taking the metal clips off the cover and placing on the boot first, so the lid was never going to go back on like this. After several weeks and several attempts and give-ups, i finally got it back on single handed by taking the clips of the panel first.... .

But guess what, two weeks ago no water...... It can sit like that for another few weeks before i can be bothered attempting the refit again.

For some reason, the panel in my boot allows me to quite easily pull the cover part way off, get to the hose and pop it back onto the connector. When I replace the cover, a couple of whacks with my fist at either side and it's all back in place.

Do I have something different, or am I missing something quite fundamental? I've done this a couple of times now just to check the hose is in place. :wonder:

I think what you may have different,is your 2 inner clips (the hard to unfree ones) are not holding on as tightly as they should because the white plastic bit into which they fit has in the past been damaged during a forced removal.

The perimeter clips give out easy.

You also must have the knack/knowledge of exactly how/where to reattch the tube, without taking the cover off completely, i.e. you leave it hanging by the back clips.

All supposition of course
