Pick up an Octavia yesterday and already having issues!

Yesterday afternoon I collected a 2006 2.0 FSI Sport from a car store.

Car has 25k on the clock.

When I got home I noticed that in the boot (where the spare Tyre is located) a load of water had accumulated! Managed to get rid of water. Was a good 2 litres of what had to be screen wash fluid. There must still be some water somewhere as condensation forms on the rear window and inside the rear headlights when the car is left.

I understand this is a common problem with Octavias. Where does the leak originate from? If you open the boot, I can see the water is running on the left hand side. If you lift the boot floor, the foam strip on the underside is wet on one side but dry on the other. Does it run from the boot lid?

Second has me worried.

Was driving back from shopping when I noticed the car starting to drive extremely juddery. The Control system for exhaust gases began flashing on the dashboard and then remained illuminated. It was very noticeable when accelerating or going up a slight gradient. Managed to get the car home in the end.

What could this be down to?

Take it back!!

dont know about the mk2 but the mk1 washer pipe is in the left side below the speakers and there is a pressure clip that popes off, that could be the problem, just clip them back together.

Take it back straight away! Car should'nt have been sold, unless your really attached to it, could be worth getting your doe back and getting another one as you don't want to inherit engine glitches from the off. :'(

pretty sure that it would be the washer pipe. have ead of the same issue quite a few times

Agree with take it back to where you bought it. I can't comment on your particular issues, but when I was looking to buy my vRS I looked at a couple of them in car supermarkets. These were very big, very popular car supermarkets too. And I struggled to find a single 'straight' car in the whole car lot, let lone the vRS's that I went to see. Lots of very dodgy paint jobs and little niggles...

The Control system for exhaust gases and judderyness occurred after 50 miles of driving the car. Prior to that it drove superbly.

Just went outside to turn the engine over and no dash errors. Engine sounds fine.

Would take it for a drive but a bit worried I could cause further damage.

Bit of a tricky situation as I part exchanged my previous vehicle and took out a bit of finance to pay for the remainder.

My previous car was so unreliable. What with a baby on the way in March we wanted something reliable.

Not good.

they are very good cars mate, you must have got one thats been driven F***in hard and not looked after well. good luck with it mate, but deff get it back to them and get ur money back or something, I wouldnt even bother trying to get it sorted just get another.

I'll take the car back first thing tomorrow morning so they can take a look at it, at least give them the opportunity to resolve the issue before requesting replacements/refunds.

The car was for sale for a while.

The Sport model is an odd one. You're either after a VRS or go for the diesel or lower powered petrol models.

So the car's just been sat there (over the last cold month especially) probably going for the odd test drive here and there over 2-3 miles. The petrol tank is empty most of the time expect when they take it out for a test drive and pop a few quid in there.

Could this inactivity be an issue?

The car need a fill when I picked it up so I just filled it up at a small petrol station down the road for the car store with a tank full of 95 ron.

Under the catalytic convertor section in the handbook states:

• On vehicles fitted with a catalytic converter, never let the fuel tank run

completely empty. An irregular fuel supply can result in poor ignition or misfiring.

Unburnt fuel may get into the exhaust system and damage the catalytic converter.

• Filling the tank even only once with leaded petrol will result in the catalytic

converter being destroyed.

• If you detect misfiring, a drop in performance or irregular engine running when

driving, reduce your speed immediately and have the vehicle inspected by the

nearest specialist garage. The symptoms described may be caused by a fault in the

ignition system. Unburnt fuel may get into the exhaust system and damage the

catalytic converter.

Hope this isn't the case as its the most expensive repair!

from reading around it could also be:

1. EGR Valve

2. MAF

3. Lamba Sensor

Could it be old petrol in the tank?

Try some Vpower in it, that might clean it out a bit.

Or derv???

The juddering sounds like classic coil pack failure symptoms to me.

Don't panic! If the car drove well for 50 miles there is not a lot wrong with it. It could be something fairly minor like a dodgy coil pack or injector. Get the car back to them for inspection. Where are you located? There maybe someone local with VAG-COM who can do a quick code read for you and that would be reassuring and perhaps with diagnosis. Check out the VAG_COM sub-forum for further info.

Update.

Drove it 25 miles back to the garage and then 25 miles back again.

Not a single issue. Car was accelerating smoothly and no juddering.

I think Aspman might be right with the old petrol theory.

I've stuck a bottle of Forte Petrol Treatment in and hopefully that should help. Will keep an eye on it but hopefully it should be ok.

They also found the source of the water leak.

A rear washer pipe came off behind the CD multichanger on the left hand side. I'll have to keep an eye on that one too.

Just getting some prices for cambelt change and service from a few garages and will get it booked in this week. I'll ask them to look at it again and stick some of the VAG screen wash in.

I'm with Mr Shark. Sounds like one of your coilpacks is braking down. Get a spare and keep it in the boot. Better than that, replace all 4 now to save you any more issues. :)

A quick faultcode scan will show the culprit.

Its booked in for a service this week so I'll mention it to them.

can I just ask?

why the hell are you having it serviced now? it should of had a full service and everything done before you took delivery of it? I wouldnt of taken it without it all being sorted so I could have min 1 year motoring before needing to pay anything out on it.

It did apparently from the car supermarket from where I purchased it. Also has a years MOT.

For my own peace of mind its booked into a VW garage (trustworthy. Wifes mum used to work there) and I don't mind paying as a result. Price was exactly the same as my local Skoda dealer.

Belt and tensioners haven't been done as I suppose the car isn't quite 4 years old yet and hasn't hit the mileage.

300 miles later and I haven't experienced the judder issue again.

Think I can put that down to old petrol residue that was in the bottom of the empty tank.

I picked the car up and filled it to the top and simply dispersed it, where it made its way into the engine.

Now, to sort out that pesky leaking rear washer issue....

Wouldn't bother changing the cam belt at 25k, even on a 2006. Although if it gives you peace of mind, fair enough.

Think VW group are crying wolf far too early on cam belt changes.

I don't know the previous history of the vehicle so for peace of mind for the next 3 years I'll get it changed.
