Fabia alarm will not turn off! Please help!

Featured Replies

My 2001 Fabia Elegance 1.9 Tdi factory fitted alarm keeps going off every week or so and is gradually getting worse. All the flashers, wipers and interior lights work perfectly. A new battery was fitted a few days ago to try and cure the problem but it has had no effect. I have checked and sprayed with WD40 all the boot, bonnet and door locks with no change. It happens regardless of weather conditions and temperature. A new interior monitoring sensor was fitted two years ago due to an alarm fault but I have disabled this function and it is still going off. The only other odd thing to happen just before Xmas was the window switches reversed themselves and the door lock button would not work. When I pressed the drivers door pin down it cured the problem and it has not come back. This has only happened once in the just over 3 years of ownership. My neighbours and myself are now going mad with the alarm going off. Tonight it has gone off again and this time it will not disarm! Not with the key or even by starting it up! I have disconnected the battery and it is still going off. After about 20 minutes it eventually stopped itself working on its backup battery. Has anyone please got any ideas as to what is wrong. I need the car for a long journey in a few days and also cannot do without it for work. Driving the car with the alarm wailing and having to disconnect the battery every time I park / reconnect every time I want to drive is getting a bit annoying!

Please help!

See that for a temporary fix. Get a good nights sleep if nothing else!

As for a long term fix a fault code scan should help isolate the issue.

I pulled fuse 60 out but it still kept singing its head off. Any other suggestions?

I pulled fuse 60 when it was already wailing. Since it stopped I have been out to it pulled fuse 60 again and re-connected the battery. So far no alarm but I still need a permanent fix for this if anyone has any ideas? Due to the fact the alarm would not turn off with the key or by starting the car I'm thinking that it may be a fault with the interior ECU or alarm unit itself. Does anyone know where the alarm siren is? Also where is the backup battery that keeps it going when the main vehicle battery is disconnected?

Took my car into Dennis Horton & Sons Skoda in Lincoln today. Without any appointment they did not hesitate to take my car in and kept it for the day whilst I was at work. The alarm fault turned out to be the siren unit itself which they showed in stock. However the computer was wrong and the part was actually due to arrive tomorrow. This part is now going to be reserved for my car and will be fitted and ready tomorrow (£180 fitted). They also noted that my two day old brand new silver Bosch battery from Halfords failed a voltage drop test. Me thinks that will be going back to Halfords ASAP. Particularly when the Halfords fitter took 1 hour to try and fit it, dropping the battery clamp down then engine bay in the process. And when he finally went inside the store to get help I used his tools to finish the job myself much to his surprise when he came back out to see the bonnet down! I think Halfords need to do some staff training quick!

Hi,

I had a similar alarm problem after a really cold spell in january last year (2009), what had happened was the liquid in the rear screen washer pipe froze and expanded, pulling the pipe off (and bursting it), so when the thaw hit it leaked down onto the electrics in the boot lock, thus sending the alarm haywire.

A new bootlock, washer motor and refitted pipework later the problem was fixed, so this is something for you to check out.

PS. Cost me just shy of £200 all-in
