Interior Lighting

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

I have been trawling through the forums today looking for info/ideas on some interior light modifications. I'm competent when it comes to pulling trim off and actually doing the work but I know little about the do's and do not's in terms of where to solder/connect wires to.

I found a really good 'How to' on installing lights for the door handles (which I might well do).

What I was really after was a 'How to' with pics for installing footwell lights - specifically pics of how you wire it all up in the dome light.

I'm also going to add lights to the boot - possibly keeping the existing ones (just with LED lights fitted) or not depending. Again - some pics of the wiring arrangement would be very helpful.

On the subject of replacement interior dome lights (front and rear) what am I best going for - I don't want to get a blown bulb light up on my dash.

I live in Worcester - the other option (depending on the price) would be to get someone to do the wiring for me, anyone know any local ICE or similar places that'd worth trying?

I do have to ask as you are the second eprson who has put up about this in as many days: Why on earth do you need footwell lights? I do hope its not so you can see which pedal you are using! :)

There is a thread on here that has the pictures of where to solder the wiring to on the front interior light - use the search and you'll find it (amongst loads of others!) The same smd LEDs can be used for the boot and the footwell. They have a sticky backing thats easily peeled off.

There are only 2 wires attached to each of the 2 bulbs in the boot - just attach one wire to each. Make sure you get them the correct way round as the LEDs only work one way.

Try here to start off and there is a link to where I got them from further in that thread.

I used these:- from superskoda but they appear to have been removed at the moment. The outer 2 lights were custom shaped to fit properly.

I think some people have them permanently on which looks naff but if they're wired up to the interior lights then they do 'add' to the car.

I also find it's easier to see where I've written 'Clutch', 'Brake' and 'Accelerator' on each of the pedals as I'm so forgetful

My boss's Scirocco has them on all the time. Footwell lights should only be visible at night and even then they only need to be a very very gentle glow........

Fantastic guess - but not quite!

To save yourself having any more delusions about red cars though - here's what it does actually say
