car cut out after traction control light came on

Featured Replies

I am the owner of a 02 1.9td L & K Skoda Octavia. As i was driving the vehicle at 70mph the traction control warning light illuminated on the dashboard and a short time later my revs started to die I was able to keep the car going for a short while then my battery light came on and I seemed to have smoke coming from the exhaust.I eventually lost all revs and came to a stop and although the car turned over it did not fire up and I had to get the car towed to my local garage who are going to examine it tomorrow.

Does anybody have any idea what the problem maybe??????????????????????????????????????

nope but it doesnt sound nice to me.

good luck mate and hope its something and nothing.

With a bit of luck, it's "just" a flat battery and/or alternator/sprague clutch job.

What colour was the smoke? My car died once - well it ended up running really rough with no go at all and white diesel smelling smoke. I felt that possibly a bit of dirt had jammed an injector open. Left the car over lunch in a field gateway (was only a few hundred yards away from my parents house at the time), and it started fine afterwards and hasn't played up since!

MBAMES the smoke was a grey white colour and the car has failed to start up since. The local garage were unable to look at it today but will be looking at it first thing tomorrow morning.I did get the alternator replaced about 3 months ago after it stopped working correctly

I hope your right and this is not going to be a mega expensive repair ortherwise my Skoda may be heading to the scrapyard which is unfortunate as I have had over 100,000 miles out of this car over the past 7 years and its required very little repair.

It would be worth checking the ECU power relay (109). A fault with this can cause all sorts of wierd stuff to happen.

and for £14 could be a cheap fix!

also could be worth checking the charging fuse on top of the battery, sometimes they work the nut loose and it burns the contact and could maybe have taken the abs/tc out too...

if you want to sell it as is let me know i am after another octy

Pleased to say that this problem appears to have been fixed and the problem was with the crankshaft sensor and the timing belt and pulleys. The car now appears to be running fine after these parts have been replaced.I am awaiting the bill tomorrow fingers crossed it wont be to high. Many thanks for all your suggestions.
