2.0TDi CR 110 bhp - Power & Gearbox

I am looking at both the 2.0TDi CR 110bhp and 140bhp Yeti models, both in SE. The 110bhp is 2WD, the 140bhp is 4WD.The more powerful car appeals but the lower leasing, tax, and better fuel economy of the 110bhp is sitting on my shoulder chirping away at me. I am going to test drive both but test drives are a little limited so I would appreciate some first hand advice.

The 110bhp only has a 5 speed gearbox. I am used to a 6 speed one now but that does not mean that I need one. What do owners think of the 5 speed box? Is the car waiting to change gear again when you are on the motorway or is it fine for the car? Is the lack of an extra gear a deal breaker?

The 140bhp clearly has more power but does the car need it? Is the 110bhp engine sluggish or does it still have plenty of poke? I am not a boy racer but if I need to overtake I want to do it with minimum effort, I don't want the car to need a run up before overtaking. I live in an area of single lane roads and occasional dual carriageway at best so when you get a chance to overtake you need to do it quickly and safely. How are drivers finding it?

Does the reduced power means you hear the engine more on motorways? I do like a quiet car and most reviews of the Yeti have complimented it on this issue. I don't want to end up with the one model that has to work hard to move the car.

To me, a lot of this would come down to; would you find benefits in having the 4wd system?

The power difference wouldnt put me off the 110 as in my view its more about the torque figures and the 110 has a good amount for the weight of vehicle.

Also, it may be interesting to find out what rpm the 6th gear in the 6 speed box and the 5th gear in the five speed box are doing as with some manfacturers the top end gearing will be the same but the 6 speed box is in place more so for performance - closer ratios compared to the longer ratios of the 5 speed 110.

Sounds to me like you know what you want :giggle: and 4 wheel drive is about all round grip not just off roading. Go on do it! You know you want too ;)

Hardly ever use first gear 2nd and third so flexible only done small miles 2.L 2WD plenty powerful for me :)
