1.8tsi headlight improvements etc

Featured Replies

Morning all,

I have a new Estate 1.8tsi SE dsg and altho' have only covered less than 200 miles I have a couple of questions-

A. The low beam headlight performance (halogen) seems to me a bit disappointing as compared to my previous car– is there any point in fitting say Philips Extreme bulbs or is the problem more in the basic design of the optics?

B. What does the embedded element in the o/s rearmost side window do? The n/s window is plain so I wonder if it is some form of aerial altho' the car has the usual roof aerial?

Thanks for any thoughts

Cheers

Mike

A) What was the previous car (make and model, no need for age), and did it have halogens or Xenons?

B ) (Look Upper"b"close bracket is a list pont, not sunglasses!) I've seen heated 3rd lights in estates before, but usually on both sides.

Tks

Previous car Subaru Forester halogens upgraded to extremes but to be honest didn't notice huge improvement on standard bulbs

Ciao

I think it was mentioned in another thread that it is a 'diversity' aerial to improve radio reception. Presume it must be specific to FL's as my '06 doesn't have one (unless it is very well hidden!).

As long as you have projectors in the headlamps, I can highly recommend a HID upgrade. I recently got these in mine, as has another member and they are amazing - 50w HID's that light up the road and don't cause a scrap of bother to other driver

My new estate has that element too - no idea what it's for. It's quite noticeable - looks like the rear heating elements except there's only one.

Well, I think you'd see more of a difference with Extremes in the Octy, cos Scoobies are notorious for having rubbish headlights!

On which point, you are aware that the "50% brighter" relates to the light returned using a reference object and reflector set up?
