Sqeaking from rear of occy vrs

Featured Replies

Hi guys got a bit of an annoying problem.

recently had read bearings done on 54 vrs

but since the bad weather had an annoying squeaking coming from rear of car.

its something to do with the tyres/wheels as every revolution of wheel turning it squeaks ,between 10-20 mph then it cant be heard?

a mate of mine said its possibly rock salt stuck in wheel.??

he advised me to reverse aggressively and brake hard. i did but no change.

any ideas out there?

hopefully nothing serious.

thanks.

it could just be the rear brakes rusting up. Under normal use, they're underused, nad tend to turn a manky black colour. Maybe it's worth driving around with something really heavy in the boot for a bit, or even driving around with the handbrake on for a hew hundred metres. Should clean them up a fair bit.

thanks for the advice but tried the handbrake thing , still the same.

was thinking of takeing it in to my garage. what u think?

Jack it and and try spinning the rear wheels, so you get a sqeak then?

This might help to indicate where the sqeak is coming from - ie. is it load induced.

Your mate might be right; the only way to be sure is to jack the car up and actually look under the shields, maybe flexing them away from the discs.

thanks for the advice guys

i took it to my garage cost me £60 for 2 new brake pads

apparently the brake calipers had siezed up and were full of crap. obviously this had caused the squeaking and had resulted in the brake pads being worn right down.

thinking about it i did notice a slight lack of power.

thanks again.
