Featured Replies

Looking to get a cat 1 alarm filled to my vRS, can anyone recommend one and is it worth get one fitted as the car only has a factory immobiliser.

Greg

Your car will have a CAT1 fitted as standard!

I guess the only circumstances an alarm is useful for is to prevent vandalism, help prevent theft of the car's contents or wheels (locking wheel nuts are easy to circumvent), and towing the car away. I guess some people would say an alarm can encourage vandalism though - once kids smack your car and realise it makes a funny sound, then a football is going to constantly bounce on it carrying muck, stones across it causing scratching. Careful selection of sensors can probably help prevent the football scenario though.

Clifford used to be a good brand, but it is now owned by Directed Electronics who also own a number of other alarm brands such as Viper. Clifford costs more than the others but probably isn't that much better to justify the extra cost (they all use the same sensors).

If you contact a decent alarm installer they should be able to discuss your needs and give a quote based on that.

A good alarm specific forum is at http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_topics.asp~FID~3

i used to have a scorpion cat 1 fitted to my old cav gsi it was superb closed the windows the sunroof and you could add extras onto it aswell ie remote start boot pop etc, would def have another fitted and it was cheaper than clifford aswell

Cheers mate, we have trashed this out on a earlier topic 'vrs security', but the mark 1 doesn’t have a alarm as a std fit
