6 speed

Featured Replies

can you get a 6 speed box for these vrs , they desperatly need one.

Do they? Why?

You can fit the fabia vRS box with driveshafts, clutch, starter motor and perhaps some other bits. :)

Yes, but why do they need one? 150mph too slow for you?!

lol whats the reason they need one i thought the only difference in ratio was the final gear????

by then your over the speed limit lol

It's lower ratiod on the basis that the revs in a petrol means it has 1/3 more rev range to play with. Still seems quite silly if you want to do it simply for the lower revs and not because you're running silly bhp and need the stronger derv box.

Was about to add that 6spds are a stronger box, but mildly tuned 1.8Ts won't wreck a box easily unless you're mechanically unsympathetic

it just seems like it lacks pick up having driving a leon 180bhp with a six speed it seems better and dont lack top speed at all the ocys are too heavy for a five speed.

mine coped fine to 150+ with no probs and wasnt slow thats for sure...( track before you start lol)

I thought that for the petrol 6 speed boxes that there wasn't any difference in the top ratio from a 5 speed, you just end changing gear more often???

yup on the 6 speed petrol boxes it is the same final. so they do the same speed at same revs in 5 on 5 speed and 6 on six speed.

I cant see point in the hassel n money to convert it to 6 speed. unless you have 3-400 bhp and S&^% loads of torque. the 5 speed box might be weaker than the 6 but still strong enough for the remapped 1.8t with a few other mods.

its not just a case of putting the box on, there is lots of other things to change / put on too i do believe

Yep, like you say Billy the top speeds are pretty much identical between the two. Well 3mph in it! You'd have to get a diesel 02M to get a higher top speed.

_____________

6-speed 02M (FZQ) gearbox from a Seat Leon Cupra R (BAM engine):

1st - 3.357

2nd - 2.087

3rd - 1.469

4th - 1.150

5th - 1.194

6th - 0.975

Final drive 1st-4th - 3.944

Final drive 5th-6th - 3.087

So in 6th gear @ 6000rpm you'd see 149mph

_____________

5-speed 02J (EHA) gearbox from a Skoda Octavia RS (AUQ engine):

1st - 3.300

2nd - 1.944

3rd - 1.308

4th - 1.034

5th - 0.838

Final drive 1st-5th - 3.647

So in 5th gear @ 6000rpm you'd see 146mph

Like Leeboy said, absolutely no need for a 6 speed box unless you are planning something a little silly under the bonnet......

I ran a completely standard 5 speed box with the IHI vf34 set up poking out around 330bhp 320 ft/ibs torque without any problems, I only changed to a 6 speed box/limited diff because I had other things planned for the car

Petrol 6 speed box you will be changing gear too much IMO.

Steve :)

P.s. Fitting the 6 speeder is a massive job with a lot of fu*king around, trust me I've done it!!!

yea and id guess that your is running Diesel torque levels through it too lol, so it is a good choice or youd be filling that small 55l tank up too much.

I love your car Ste, wish I had the money to do that lol.

what sort of eco do you get in her now?

sorry to change subject slightly

billy

Speed (MPH) @ 7k with the 02M (petrol)

  1. 34
  2. 56
  3. 82
  4. 107
  5. 137
  6. 168

Speed @ 7k with 02J

  1. 43
  2. 72
  3. 108
  4. 139
  5. 163

I much prefer the 5 speed over the 6 speed petrol, it has much better spacing between the gears.

If you look at the uprated gearset you will see it is near as dam the same top 5 gears on the 02J.....

Just my pennysworth.

I can imagine, thats pritty damn good!

town not too much but Mways is not bad at all

So he's not replied? :giggle:

Do you have the gear ratios for the 6 speed Diesel box in the Octavia?

anyone got any reliable data or experience relating to how much power/torque the 5-speed box will cope with in a 1000kg race car? (also considering it may be run with full slick tyres from time to time, rest of the time on Bridgestone RE070 due to regulation limitations )

The 6-speed box is hugely heavier that 5-speed but we're reluctant to change if it will introduce reliability issues. Currently running a 2wd TT with GT3071R at 1.6bar and 340bhp but will be more than 400bhp for this year, and my opinion is the 5-speed just won't be reliable enough.. any views from thos that have tried?
