Just bought a Fabia VRS advice needed please..

Featured Replies

Hi people hope your all good..

I baught a Fabia VRS 130 TDI PD last night and just thaught I would register on here..

Having owned Jap cars im hoping this car is as reliable as my Past cars, Civic VTI, Corolla T Sport, Yaris T Sport etc the Fabias torque is comparable to a Corolla T Sport when in Lift, having driven both my preference is the Fabia..

I thaught I would be sensible and go down the economical path and cost wise insurance etc it cant go wrong.

The mileage is now on 60k the last service was at 50k it had an oil change, and the timing belt, water pump and tensioners were changed..

The obvious work to carry out on it is another oil change, air filter, glow plugs, clean MAF sensor, recommended oil? anything I have missed?

Can any of you from experience advise me if I should do the glow plugs at this service considering its now at 60k and from the service history has never been changed, also is it difficult to do a home service on these cars? all my past petrol engines I have done myself, but never touched a diesel.

And finally are there any common problems on these cars as to what I should look out for in my ownership? other than the obvious dash warning lights.

Your comments will be appreciated.. Thanks

welcome to briskoda

Welcome, and I wouldn't bother touching the MAF - I never have, mainly because I fear I would break it and they're not cheap.

Glow plugs aren't usually a service item either - I would only change them if it was taking 2 attempts to fire up when cold.

Consider changing the pollen filter too - the one under and to the centre side of the glovebox (little flap setup under there to move, and the filter casing drops down :))

If the fuel filter was not done at 50k, it is probably 20k miles old so is also due.

hI thanks for the reply..

EGR Valve is that a service item, or does it need maintenance, if it fails it can be costly is it a problem on the 130 VRS TDI Engine

Not a service item, but if the performance starts getting a bit lack lustre it is worth removing the EGR and inlet manifold and giving it a good cleaning of the diesel crap that builds up inside both over time (a drawback of having an EGR valve) It's a gruesome job and one reason why I fitted an EGR replacing racepipe as soon as I could - to ensure no more recirc'd exhaust gases.

Brake fluid? Recommend castrol super dot 4.

Also check to see if the console bushes have been changed. Simply put your foot on the wheel and try pushing it towards the door. If it moves alot I would recomend changing.

How's the air-con? Might be worth getting the gas checked.

The front brake discs and pads will need doing soon so good point il do the brake fluid.. the bushes were changed at the last MOT

Im worried for some reason about the engine, are the engines in general good considering they are serviced oil changes etc....

The 130 VRS does it suffer any common problems, because im having to travel from Manchester to London often & I dont want to breakdown with a 2 Month old baby??

Thanks for the replys...
