Advice on servicing

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I stay in East Kilbride and drive a lightly fettled Fabia Vrs. Can anyone recommend a garage nearby for a service, someone who knows what they're doing. Thanks in advance.

I'm looking for the same - I'm thinking of trying the VW Audi Repair Centre in Bothwell (beside Autoglass at the Raith Interchange). Their website is quite impressive http://www.audivwrepaircentre.co.uk/skoda-service-costs.html

Failing that, I came home last night to a flyer on my windscreen from a 'Skoda Specialist' in Shawlands (26 Deanston Drive) - full service £65 inc. collection & delivery - was tempted but can't see them using the correct spec oil and VAG parts at that price :-)! Funnily enough, I'd a Lupo GTi prior to the vRS and came home one night to a flyer on the windscreen from the same guy claiming to be a 'VW Specialist' so perhaps he has a stack of leaflets for a variety of makes!

CostCo currently have a 25l drum of 505 01 oil for under £20+VAT so oil can be surprisingly cheap and if it meets the spec it meets the spec. whatever the brand is. And if you buy your genuine VAG parts through GSF they are surprisingly cheap.

As for being a Skoda or VW specialist, I think that's an accusation that could be levelled at anyone who is a qualified VAG Technician. As the cars are effectively reskins of common components they are all trained to work on the same oily bits so they probably can claim to be 'specialists' in all 4 brands. Certainly 99.9% of them will claim to be a VAG expert.

I might give them a try - a lot cheaper than a stealer and my car will be six years old in July anyway.

I was just amused at why he just doesn't call himself a VAG specialist - like you say, if you know your way about the mechanics of a VW, you can just as easily work on a Skoda or a SEAT - it was the fact that he was conveniently a VW specialist when I had one and a Skoda specialist now I've got one of those :wonder:
