I'd stick with a 10w 40.

0w-30's thin ....10 or 15w-40'd be good.

In your hand book it will give you a VW code for the oil to be used, it will be a little like VW505.00, you can use any oil that meets the VW spec given for your car.

Let me know what the code is and I will give you a list of approved oils.
