First scrape :(

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Today whilst out driving in a part of London where people don't know how to drive & all drive toyota previas I got stuck at a junction trying to turn left & had a tiny gap to squeeze past a car parked very badly on the corner of the junction, I notcied my car touching the rear of the parked car just a bit too late...SCRAPE.... :(

I didn't stop because I thought I had jus touched it & there wasn't any damage visible in my mirror & I jus wanted to get home after spending 2hrs in traffic! - Dunno if it was bad of me not to stop, will I get in trouble? :S

So here's the dammage :'(

Guess what colour the other car was?

cleaned up a bit...

Does anyone know of a good dent repair company/ bodyshop in the london area? any ideas on cost of repair?

I am very sad  as this is the first real dent in any car I have owned!!!

Any help & or advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks in advance :smirk:

How would you feel if someone did this damage to you and drove off? That could be how the other guy is feeling right now.

I know how that feels had my driver side fog light taken out on x-mas day :(

As I said I had'nt realised that the damage was that bad!

If I could go back & re-think my actions then maybe I would have got out & knocked on every door to find out whoose car it was!

Will you get into trouble? Probably not if nobody saw you, but that doesn't make it right.

Well said. Perhaps you should consider going back to find the owner of the car you've damaged, or failing that call the local police to report it.

YES it will be on CCTV, the rozzers will come round and seize your car, family and cat, your house will be sold off to pay for some homeless lesbians from Lambeth.

On the otherhand if the other car was parked illegally (which if it was at a junction like you describe, it was) then I would call it collateral damage and forget about it.

Just forget about it mate! If they havn't traced you within a couple of weeks stop worrying!!! lol

I know its not right! but at the time I hadn't realised the damage was that bad & had I known then things would have probably been different!

I am not the sort of person that runs over someones cat and does not tell them about it...

The car in question was illegally parked & if the inconciderate driver tuning left (towards me) hadn't pretended I didn't exist & put me in such a small space then this would not have happened.

I did a very similar thing about a year ago, scraped a guys car, didn't realise. I was actually reported to the police as the motorist spotted it. Sufficed to say I didn't get in trouble, as when they rang I was like "I was there, so it must have been me." And they passed my details on to the guy who's car it was. However it's a very strange phone call to recieve, as the scratch on my car was so tiny I hadn't noticed it, and so to have the police say "did you hit this mans car" and I'm going "I dunno, if I did I would have stopped" kind of thing, and to then be threatened with court proceedings if I didn't admit it, wasn't fun.

nobodys seen it might get away but if anyone seen you can be prosecuted for hit and run but i believe you have a certain number of days to report it, but i'm not sure whther its 48 hours or 7 days, say you didnt realise you hit it till you got home so dont have details, and then if anyones reported it the police will put u in contact if nobodys reported it they'll leave it.

It's 24 hours in person at a police station - http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/legal-advice/at-the-accident.html

To be fair I can't see the police being that interested, but maybe better safe than sorry?
