Skoda Octavia Head unit replacement

Featured Replies

HI all,

Wondering if anybody can help me. I've just bought an Octavia VRS 2004 plate. Love the car but bought myself a new head unit. Plugged it into ISO connector and nothing happening at all. Also bought a connector from Halfords which apparently swaps permanent live around but still nothing. Any suggestions? Standard head unit works fine.

I've also tried this with a Sony head unit I had lying around. Can eject discs so theres power to the unit but nothing else works. No sound or display.

Thanks

Steve

I'm in the process of doing this myself, and have not had any problems so far. I needed an adaptor cable that converted the Octavia loom connections to the radio loom connections. The adapter cable worked with both a Kenwood and an Alpine wiring loom. If you are connecting your radio loom directly into the Octavia loom, that might be worth looking at more closely.

Some head units allow you to eject CDs after you have turned off the ignition, and that is what the Sony may be doing, so I would start checking whether you have a permanent feed but not a switched feed.

The Kenwood instruction set pointed out that the red cable was normally fed via the ignition, and the yellow was permanently connected, but on the VAG family, the reverse colours are used. However, you can connect both to the permanent feed.

Finally, I understand that the standard Stream radio has a signal booster built in to compensate for the short aerial, so you may need to fit an in-line booster in the aerial feed.
