Looked at the front feed for the vrs.. (mk2) noticed that the air is split off in to 2 section after the front grill..

The direct line for air goes stright to the engine,, and seems to me a little to the air box/filter/engine its self... Is their a bit missing?

that is normal, the std airbox is quite restrictive in design and a good mod after stage 1 but even more so at stage 2 onwards is an induction kit

may try get a 2nd hand one and try some fibreglas work. Deletion of the lower hole and a smooth run in to the main flow channel should be alot better than £200 worth lol
