4th gear max speed...

Featured Replies

Think this is the right place to put it as this is for Fabia vRS based cars...

What speed can you get up to (before red line) in fourth gear?

Trying to work out if my friends car is still running in or just doesn't like 80mph - 90mph.

Basically, pulling from slip road at 50mph in 4th all the way up to 80mph in fourth.

Seem to remember my Ibiza FR TDI doing a bit more... car is a standard BLT from what he's told me.

Hmmm, I would think 6 speed box would redline at 90 to 95mph (say at 5000rpm)? I know it's a pain when I do 1/4 miles as I need 5th gear for my speed over the line (circa 98 to 100mph)

i'm sure i've seen 100mph in fourth, or very close to it

Indicated quite possibly.

my Ibiza will just about do 80 in 3rd

Dyno's are run in 4th, and the most I've seen is 90-100mph on a Furby vRS

Just tried mine out recently, clocked 110 mph, rev's on red line, in 4th. gear.

At that speed changed into 6th gear.

Around 100-110 indicated I would have thought. I've tried out 3rd before and that's just 80 indicated before the limiter, same as Andy says on the Ibiza.

Steve

Mine hit 105mph in 4th on the dyno.

Ah, maybe he wasn't looking at the speedo at the right time! :)

Mine does about 90 in fourth, but I always change up at 4000rpm - not much around to use after that :D

Never red lined mine, don't suppose it matters much really!

Unfortunately the comprehensive gear ratio spreadsheet that was here has disappeared - luckily I have a copy - abstracting:

For fourth gear times:

Fabia vRS (53) gear ratios assuming 205/45 profile tyres on 16" rims:

~ 102.84mph at 4000rpm

Fabia vRS (04) gear ratios assuming 205/45 profile tyres on 16" rims:

~ 87.51mph @ 4000rpm

Excellent, thanks for that! :)

Does having 205/40/17's make my speed increase or decrease?

The spreadsheet only has figures for the standard tyres and 225/40 profile tyres on 17" rims.

However you could compare the rolling circumference using http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg4.html to calculate the % variation

110 indicated in 4th on a track day straight ;)

I tried it today and got an indicated 110mph
