Preventative Maintainance on a new Octy

Featured Replies

First post but been reading here for a while, choosing my options n stuff. Anyways, finally ordered a new Octy Vrs estate  so probably be asking q's & hopefully helpin others where i know how :smirk:

This is my first new car since i took an interest in lookin after my own cars. So now i know my way about a car a wee bit, figured it's worth givin it best chance of a long happy life i can. Here's my list of odds n sods worth doin on a new Octy, but what have i missed?

  • Save a full scan from VAG-COM -- after reading about the ABS units that even skoda can't recode :S
  • Recode any options (anti hijack door locks etc.)
  • Scotchguard the interior (£299 the dealer wanted! £5 said ebay for supaguard interior  )
  • Seal the paintwork, alloys & wheel arches
  • Bed in the brake pads (is this necessary? i like sharp brakes figure this is the best way to get em from day 1)

Cheers, Mute

p.s. am in Motherwell if anyone needs a hand with VAG-COM stuff locally or... thats about it canny think what else use i am to anyone on here yet :giggle:

Welcome :)

Probably a bit early for this advice:-

I've had all Company cars before ( 2 octy's - A4 - Vectra etc)

This is My first owned car for a good while too

Mine is a CR diesel VRS on variable servicing - meaning no oil change until 18000 miles

I have followed others advice on here and changed oil and filter at 9000 miles

Like you hoping for a long and happy engine life

Thanks vRSLen

Cheers InexEng, i figure i'll probably do the first oil change once i feel the car's run in (2k-3k miles) and keep on top of it from then on. I'll stick to standard servicing, i dont think i do enough miles to go on the variable program.

Wish it was here already :-( not good at this waiting business.
