Will a 2.0tdi head fit on a 1.9 block?

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm thinking of tuning my fabia vrs se and was thinking of putting the 16v 2.0l tdi head onto the 1.9 block,

theory speaking it should fit but im thinking of injectors and pipe work??

Would really like qualified answers as if i get the information I need the head will be ordered and results posted,

I'm hoping around 170bhp as that's what the 2.0 has,

also has anyone else who owns a vrs have experianced 4th gear problems? Mines currently having the 4th gear syncomesh

replaced under warrently with new clutch, when I went to engage 4th it would grind as it went in! Just wondered if it was a common fault?

Many thanks

I don't think it will fit, as the 1.9 is an 8v unit and the 2.0 is 16v

NO. :D

If you want to tune it there is potential for take the 8v head to big power. :)

170bhp can be done just with a remap on a fabia vRS - no other changes needed

Big turbo, intercooler and some other bits - 220bhp

To achieve 260bhp will need a very big turbo, and replacement injector nozzles, and other stuff.

How far do you wish to go? ;)

I was told by my fellow vw techs, some master techs it would be possible but isn easy, not known anyone to do it though,

umm I'm heading for as much as possible. Soon to be deep pockets and a passion for speed and torque will end up with me spending more than I want but that's all part of it,

my plan was to get it up to 320bhp from the 2.0tdi so might do a engine change

I would say impossible as its the cylinder bore thats different not the stroke,. if it was the stoke they had changed there might have been a chance of making the head fit somehow, but i still think a complete new engine would be cheaper!

How deep are those pockets? Fabia vRS VR6?

If you are going for big power, why not go for the tried and tested 1.8T petrol lump?

Why not have a look at dropping the complete 2ltr 16v TDi unit in to the VRS - I would guess it's easier than trying to mix and match heads & blocks.

Then you have a standard engine that the tuners are familiar with rather than a complete bespoke creation that no one knows how to tune.
