fabia crash censor ?

Featured Replies

Hi ive just replaced the airbags on my fabia and am having the airbag module reset, i just wanted to now if the car has crash censors and if so where there located,

im guessing you are replacing them as you had a little accident (hope everyone was ok), look around the point of impact - was in same situation with my old clio blew the passenger seat airbag understeering into a kerb coming off a road onto a lane( no panel damage but i did shear a bolt off the ball joint which was an interesting drive up the lane with a right hand wheel pointing sideways) n had to get new module. didnt do nething about the sensors tho come to think of it! just hooked it up to the renault clip computer n reprogrammed the module for my VIN.

Word of advice - when u get it all kitted in, put ur window down n start the ignition from the outside of the car! my mates seen that happen to a few people after the cars bin in a bump while parked up.

im sure there will be a techie who can point you in the right place. hope u get some help

Airbag ECU - the seat belt pretensioners will have gone off. - Nothing else "logs" the crash to my knowledge.

would that mean that you wouldnt have to replace any impact sensors? from the experience in the clio i kerbed the drivers front wheel yet the passenger seat airbag went off plus the pretensioners passengers side front and back? i thought this to be a bit strange as none of the seatbelts were latched except my own?

could it be the way the car pitches on impact it determines the best airbag/pretensioner to blow to protect passengers from the momentum? or was it just a weird occurence that only one airbag blew?

sorry for hijacking a post but its got me thinking.... emoticon-0124-worried.gif never good this time of night

The airbag ecu is the crash sensor from memory. Not that clued up on it, but I am sure there is no wiring in the front end of the car linked to the crash / safety system. The airbag ecu has something inside it which triggers the airbags - something like a potentometer (sp?)

Airbag control unit has a G force load sensor. AFAIK this has to be reset to clear the accident flag that gets logged.

I saw one a while back where the power steering ECU had logged crash data, that cleared with a normal fault code clear through VCDS and the power steering then worked. As I understand, crash data won't clear from an airbag ECU using VCDS or the dealer tool, either you'll need to replace it or send it away to a specialist.

Anyone been watching Mythbusters recently? It's on Quest week days at 8.

Maybe the ECU has one of those liquid thingy's that they used that break at certain impact loads?

Doesn't help the OP though, sorry.

EDIT: moisture in an ECU? I'm quite dumb aren't I!
