What are the typical gains?

+30-35bhp and +50lb/ft would be a reasonable expectation.

Sorry if asking dumb question but we don't get RS with 1.8TSI. Is your 1.8TSI manual or DSG? If DSG, is it 7sp or 6sp?

Interested to see your results particularly if you have 7DSG which is what I have.

Not really my area, but AFAIK it's available with both a manual and DSG. For DSG, think it's a 6spd.

I'm pretty sure the FL 1.4 and 1.8TSI engines have the 7 speed DSG...

The vRS (both petrol and diesel) get the 6 speed...

That is correct. The 7 speed is meant to be good up to 184 lbs torque (as available in the 1.8, though no doubt there's a considerable safety margin).

I don't think anywhere gets an RS with a 1.8TSI.

AFAIK, all 1.8TSI get a 7 speed DSG or an M6.

Back on topic:

My 1.8TSI M6 is Bluefinned. I have no idea what the hp & torque gains are. IIRC Bluefin said +30kw & +90Nm but I'd take that with a grain of salt.

I did some in-gear tests with me & a mate onboard (+180kg) & posted in a forum I mod for.

40-120 in 3rd gear. 40kmh is just off boost at just on 1500rpm (didn't really look).

Before: 10.99 / 10.92 / 10.96 - call it 10.95?

After : 8.82 / 8.80(det)/ 9.02 - call it 8.95?

~2 seconds/ 18% reduction

40-140 in 4th gear. 40kmh is way off boost at about 1000rpm

Before: 14.99 / 14.74

After : 13.79 / 13.48 / 13.72

Call it 1 second better? 6% improvement?

Then as an afterthought (and because the pull was so bloody addictive) we did an 80-120 run in 3rd. Sweet Jesus, Mary & Joseph!!!

4.83/4.32/4.26

According to Steve, that's pretty good. It certainly felt quick & that wasn't going to redline so 3rd would be a great overtaking gear on many of our secondary country roads.

/searches - dumb comparison but an M5 does 80-120 in 4th in 4.8seconds

Wheels 3rd gear times - Porsche Boxter S = 4.7s; Mazda RX8 = 4.6s; 350Z = 4.1s; Mazda 6 MPS = 3.6s

So around 4.5s seems quite respectable for a near 1.5tonne, 1.8L shopping trolley.

some more 3rd gear 80-120.

Mazda MPS 3............................ 3.5secs,

911 Carerra............................... 3.6sec

HSV GTO .................................. 3.8sec,

Aston Martin V8 Vantage .............4.0sec.

XR6 Turbo .................................4.0sec,

Renault Megane 225 ....................4.0sec,

WRX takes ................................4.2secs.

VW Golf GTI ...............................4.4sec,

Ford XR5 Turbo (no mothballs)........4.5sec.
