Skoda dealer tried to sell a Diesel PD as a CR

Featured Replies

Today I went to test drive a 2008 VRS which is advertised by a Skoda dealer as a Diesel CR. The sales manager and salesman confirmed it was a CR beforehand. When driving it I thought it didn't feel like how the CR's have been talked about on here. It didn't rev up past about 5k and was noisy and felt quite harsh. He said he was sure it was a CR so I asked to see the sticker in the boot that has the engine code on it and it said BMN, which I understood from here meant it was a PD and not a CR. The salesman showed me a pump under the bonnet and insisted that as this car had that "pump" it was a CR. Finally he said he would check the log book and 5 minutes later came back saying sorry it is a PD diesel. This is the first time in my life I have driven a diesel car and I could tell that it wasn't driving as it should have for a CR (again from discussions on here). So I wonder whether this dealer and salesman just made a (stupid) mistake or tried to fraudulently mis-sell that car. Rant over. BTW - if it wasn't for good folks on here taking the time to put useful information up I may have bought that car thinking it was a CR? Thanks

I doubt thathe was behaving fraudulently, it would be more than he would dare do. I just think so many salesmen now do not know their product. I asked the guy who I bought my car from what PD meant and he had not a clue. I bet this guy didn't know the difference either.

Yeah, you're probably right, as you say it's frustrating when buyers know more about the products salesmen are trying to sell.

Next week he will sell Toyotas. (Or not at the moment :D)

I think that we had better "throttle back" or at least put the "brakes on" this post.

Most dealers have no idea what they are selling I know a dealer in my area which will remain un-named insisted the 1.8TSi DSG was a 6 speed box and not a 7 speed.

My advice would be..............walk away and try else where.

The toyota jokes there is just no stopping them is there!

No, I think they'll run and run..................and run................and run.................

As said above, so many salesmen haven't a clue, and you go into the dealer knowing far more than they do.

Best advice is do your homework beforehand, as you did, don't just accept what they say as gospel

You could have drained the fuel tank and see if there were nails instead of diesel in the tank,if there were any that would be the PD engine,as that what it sounds like, fuelled by nails ..... joking apart,a 2008 model would definetely have a PD engine,as far as I know the CR is only offered in the FL models,am I right ?.

No - I'm afraid not.

The CR engine came out in the pre-facelift Octavia around August/September 2008, so a 2008 model could have either engine in it.
