Rattle..........SOLVED! :D

Featured Replies

some may remember a while back i had a thread asking for any suggestions to solve a dash rattle, that happened most when cold, and stopped intermittantly in sync with the wipers.

Well.... i've worked it out.

If you lift the bonnet, you see at the bottom of the windscreen, the plastic tray that forms the little gulley and through which the wipers are bolted.

This is held on at the front by a rubber seal, much like a door seal.

Basically, this seal wasn't holding the tray tightly enough, and it was bouncing up and down, causing the buzz/rattle noise.

Obviously using the wipers presses the tray down and stops the noise.

Shoved some cloth in between the tray edge and the metal and all good. Might look at some bathroom sealant for a more permenant solution. :)

Hope this helps someone.

P.S. if anyone can't work out WTH i'm talking about, lemme know and i'll stick a pic up

You'll be referring to the scuttle panel then

The black plastic between the bonnet and the windscreen.

Don't do anything too permanent with affixing the panel, the wiper innards are under there and the panel needs to come right off for a windscreen replacement.

Could you pack it out with a thin rubber strip rather than using a sealant perhaps? Try removing it and re fitting it to see if that helps.

Stick-on rubber window draft excluder is great for padding out small gaps

Sounds like your screen might have been replaced at some point.
