braking in snow issues

Featured Replies

I have a fabia 1.2 05 I love it gr8 little runner but when it snows its scarey. It doesn't matter what kind of snow soft fresh fallen or compact icey, I get a loud grinding noice when I brake and my car travels 3meters before stopping and my brake pedal is to the floor. I have no braking problems in any other weather and have never had problems braking in snow in any other car. I was told by a friend that the ABS light should show when it kicks in but I have never seen it. has anybody else had the same problem what is it? I can't get a machanic to look at it they just say no car is stopping in this or you must be going too fast for the conditions. I know its not either of these its deffinately somthing more.

Sounds like its just your ABS kicking in to be honest.

yea the ABS makes one hell of a racket mate, if its fine in normal conditions its ok,

A mix of ABS and driver error...

No, they are right, you are wrong, sorry.

The noise is the ABS working as it should. You aren't stopping because the tyres can't grip the road. Simple physics.

I understand the physics but this is not the only car I drive and Surely the simple physics would apply to the other cars I drive too.

Different brakes, different conditions, etc, etc.

If driving correctly for the conditions you shouldn't have to use the brakes at all....

Just take the ABS chatter as a warning- without it you'd be sliding with the wheels locked. The two cars I've had that have convinced me to consider winter tyres are my fabia vRS and the Leon, but as yours isn't a vRS the tyres won't be high-speed wide summer tyres.

What are the other cars you drive regularly? The Fabia ABS is fairly sensitive.

all yeeh of little faith, had a diagnostic on my fabia 1.2 and guess what faulty ABS and lots of other things wrong with brakes will keep you up to date with details as son as I have them. I may not be a mechanic and only know the basics of car maints but I have been driving long enough to know when something just isn't right
