Engine mounts

Featured Replies

after fitting my de cat and it blowing or bangin on the under side of the car, its been back to powerflow 3 times and its still doing 1 or the other. They tell me my passenger side engine mount "COULD" be the problem, ie its causing the system to pull apart hence the blowing! so to the point can anyone recommend either uprated mounts to replace all the mounts or should i just put a standard one on it and hope this cures my problems :S

I'd go standard personally. I've heard the vibratechnics ones are very hard, and they're bloody expensive!

Maybe try just getting a firmer set of dogbone mount bushes. That should reduce rocking.

Unless you're building a track car, I'd go with stock mounts, or "comfort" poly mounts.

That said, should a new exhaust be pulling apart at the joints? Is there a flexible joint or pipe in the stock system that Powerflow have replaced with rigid tube?

its a miltek cat back system and a de cat downpipe off ebay powerflow only fitted a sleeve and tried to stop it banging on the underside of the car. its been back again this morning for them to re do it and its still the same and they tell me the passenger side mount needs checkin as that may be causin it to pull apart and bang when accelerating. how do i check to see if it is the mount?? :S

the problem is prob the fact there is no flexi section in the exhaust and without very stiff mounts and dog bone mount the pressure on the exhaust through movement will be loads and thus the problem i would think

My decat vibrates against something when I accelerate hard in first gear - sort of a loud buzz sound at certain RPMs.

When it's on a ramp the pipe looks nowhere near anything.

I wonder if I have similar issues. I have an uprated dogbone mount but it's a couple of years old now.

Exactly what I was thinking, but I didn't know if the decat would have removed the flexi-joint.

it turns out the passenger side and the dog bone mount need replacin so im on the look out for both prob a standard engine mount and an uprated dog bone mount. Any suggestions??. My de cat did catch on something when acceleratin it was some sort of metal cover which we bent down a bit. The only flexi bit in the de cat is between the 1st sensor hole and the turbo. I hope this makes sense as its done on my phone.
