Columbus TV / DVD whilst vehicle moving - two button workaround?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, was browsing Youtube last night and came across a couple of videos that appeared to show how easy it was for the latest units to have the vehicle in motion safety feature disabled. Personally I dont think its a great idea but thats my opinion. My question was; has anyone actually tried it as Im not convinced VAG would makes it this easy!

I wont link to the videos but they showed someone simply pressing the 'i' (top right) botton followed by the 'tone' button. The unit made the chime sound and the TV suddenly started displaying whist they were driving along :|

So is the system really that easily defeated? Curiosity got the better of me so I had to ask! :giggle:

Most aftermarket ones can be overcome by simply grounding one wire :)

Yup, fully aware of that but I was interested in the easy work around of the Columbus as shown on Youtube. It looks far too easily defeated imo and I suspect the videos are staged somehow.

With a bit of searching you might come across previous posts on here where it has been done.

I've personally not tried it, as I'm quite happy with a nearly full ipod to keep me going

Tried it, only audio continued to work not the video.

It works for me, you have to be stationary, DVD playing, then press the i key (The sat nav voice starts to talk, then press tone, you hear a beep, then drive off.

If you adjust ANYTHING whilst moving, even volume, it reverts to the tone setting screen, you then have to stop & press the i button followed by tone again.

I will not use this as a rule, but its great for traffic jams when you just creep over the blank screen speed threshold, for the passengers of course !

PS, I am using old firmware (1164 IIRC)

This trick will work with fw before 266* and 268*. Eventually even with the 266* (dont remember exactly). But certainly not with fw 268*.

And grounding a wire in a CANBUS controlled car wont work. The system gets the speedinput over the CANBUS. emoticon-0105-wink.gif
