What could be wrong with my PC

Featured Replies

I recently had to re install windows xp, due to a virus, but ever since my PC has been slow when I log on to the inter-net and try and open a page it now takes ages, I have had a new router sent to me and its plugged in with an Ethernet cable, and I am with Vodafone at home for my isp and have been for 2 years.as I get 24/7 free land-line calls line rental and unlimited access to the net all for £24 a month

Could something have gone wrong inside to do with the modem side of the comp for it to take ages to load pages

I was using IE, and have tried ff and ocra and google chrome and it still does it

The PC is a dell dimension 3100

How about rest of the pc?

Can you browes to the router at a decent speed with no adsl cable connected to the router?

Try a different filter

Do you have more than one PC? If so, is it slow on all of them? I'm thinking it could be a connection issue - try www.speedtest.net and post the results.

Something easy to remove from the mix first.

Proper Ethernet drivers lost in reinstall?

Are you using IE 7? If so do you still have problems running it in No Add-ons mode?IE7 in No Add-ons mode: 1. Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without Add-ons; or Start | (All) Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet Explorer(No add-ons).

Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) Mode: http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/07/25/678113.aspx

Or here is how to reset IE7 Advanced settings? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737

If you use IE8 try this http://www.brighthub.com/computing/windows-platform/articles/44681.aspx. It's probably incorrect spyware or anti-virus settings.
