Fuel Economy at 80mph

Featured Replies

Hey there Folks.

Just worked out our fuel economy for our trip the Germany last week.

Only worked it our for the drive there and the driving around town we did.

From brim to brim we got 40.3mpg which was mainly with driving at 80mph onthe motorway with 3 adults, a boot fullof luggage and a rear passenger seat of luggage.

Is this a good figure? Interested to hear what other people get at the same sort of speeds.

This was in a 1998 Peugeot 306 1.9D (non-turbo) btw.

Thanks

Phil

Sounds good to me, but then I have a remapped Octavia vRS. Also, seeing as I don't drive in Germany, my car has never been over 70mph anyway.......

My Xantia TD used to do 45 to 50 at 70[cough] mph.

I managed 54mpg in my Octy 110 estate back from the lakes at 80mph (indicative . . . was 70mph really I'm sure ;)) with the cruise on during a 100 mile journey. I was pretty pleased with that as my old 2.0TDi Octy 2 would only manage 47mpg or so if I was lucky on the same sort of journey at that speed. Dropping to 70mph used to see huge mpg gains in my 2.0i petrol Primera GT - that would see 45mpg at 70mph! :o

I'm amazed it could do 80 MPH

Used to have a 306 Dturbo, and that would give me 50+mpg, no matter how I drove it

Even used to get around 65mpg running on cooking oil :D

Lol.. So was I!

In fact we picked to pace up to about 90 in a couple of places. It was suprisingly happy and quiet at that speed.

So not too bad suppose. I would never have got that in Nelly that's for sure!

Guess if it had a bit more power (turbo) it would be able to do that speed at slightly lower revs which would help.
