warning lamp driving me nuts

Featured Replies

Hi

My fabia was in the dealers last week sorting out an issue with the turbo. While it was there i asked them to take a look at the coolant system as i was getting the warning light on occasionally and was having to top it up. They found one of the hoses was leaking and replaced it for me. Since ive got it back the car has been getting worse. I'm having to top the coolant up every couple of days now and the warning lamp comes on occasionally. Has anyone got any ideas before i take the car back to the dealers bling again?

Is this likely to be a major problem ? Car is a 2007 with circa 20k on the clock.

Thanks

Ben

I may be wrong but assuming you aren't leaking water anymore and

have to keep topping up then they may have left some air in the system

when they changed the hose, and its working its way out. This will probably settle down

by itself when all air is purged out, once warm give the cooling hoses a few squeezes to help this along.

If not get them to look at it again.

Have you checked your oil recently?

Does its colour and consistency look normal. You don't want to see a creamy whitish looking fluid mixed in with the oil...

I don't want to alarm you but another potential reason for repeatedly topping up when you have no leaks is

a fault with the head gasket. I'm no tech though mate. There are many on here far more qualified than me to offer advice.

I'm just suggestingthe first things I'd look for. HTH :)

Is a head gasket expensive?

Please mate, don't just take it from me that you need a new head gasket.

Head gasket failure is the worst case scenario.A quick check of the oil should eliminate that.

If it's a dirty brown/black and slhiny as it should look your head gasket is probably fine.

If you bought from skoda then I presume you still are under warranty?

Go back again and make them look into it. Thats what warranties are for mate.

Wait and see what some of the others say too ,

People like moggytech, Mike-B Devonutopia, apogee, Babs, Wardy, and many many others

talk a lot more sense than a bodger like me...

No but the labour and additional parts are, but your car is under warranty if it's a 2007 plate. Common water loss points are thermo switch for rad fan, this switch is on the RH side of the rad looking from the front of the car,. just over half way down the rad. Expansion tank cap and seal, and thermostat housing.
