Tyres for Octy 110tdi estate?

Featured Replies

I need new boots all around on my Octy and have decided to keep the stock wheels for now. My local tyre fitter can do these Yokos (YOKOHAMA V550 X/LOAD) for £70ish a corner fitted and balanced . . . what do people reckon? Or is there a better tyre out there? Size is 205/55/R16.

Cheers. :)

A bit pricey that Rob.

Vredstein Ultrac Sessantas were under £60 a corner fitted last time I looked.

www.camskill.co.uk are about the cheapest I've found.

i have been pretty happy with falken f452s on mine. Dunno where where they come on the ratings on the two mentioned aboved, but work well for the miles I do.

In Feb last year I got 2 Pirelli P6000 205/55 R16 W (91) for £135.28 fitted, balanced etc from Black Circles. Price included fitting by a local independent tyre shop on behalf of Black Circles.

Google Black Circles to check prices for other tyres.

P6000 is IMHO a horrible tyre.

I'd say falken, or at that price if you look around you can even get michelin.

£70 a tyre is far too much for a yoko.

Are they V speed rated that your looking at? I'm trying to work out what speed rating the tyres should be. 2 skoda dealers have said probably V but I'm sure my car has always had W.

Mine (Elegance) was supplied ex-works with W-rated; it still has the original spare unused so I know that's got to be standard spec.

And I agree that the Pirelli P6000 should be avoided these days. It was a good tyre once, when it was new to market, about 20 years ago.

p6000's aren't made anymore, iirc.

You can still buy the P6000 and P3000 tyre range, although I wish you couldn't and they would replace them with something newer.

p6000 are pants - dont bother

I got Goodyear Optigrips £70 a corner - great grip and wear - test winner and tested by TUV in germany against top rivals and came out best,

I've got Michelin Primacy HP's on my 4x4 Estate. Previous Pilots lasted 30K - wear rate on 2 of the HP's was so high I sent them back. 2 were made in Germany, 2 in Poland - Polish ones are fine, German ones went back. Never again. Am considering Vredesteins and Dunlop SP Sport 01 for the next ones but interested to hear Optigrips are good.

That looks quite good value; just see what I can find fitting-wise in the locale. :)

Would I be right in thinking folks that the wheels I have on won't be a major detriment to the handling when I start suspension fiddling? They're obviously not low profile, but these boots are pretty worn on it and I don't think they'll last between now and when I could possibly afford some new wheels (summer at the earliest).

If they are the standard elegance wheels they are fine and run 205/55/R16 which is still a "low profile" side wall (albeit at the upper end of it)
