Are Winchester Skoda really that bad??

There is the new place in Basingstoke which has recently taken over the Skoda franchise for the area. It doubles up with Mitsubishi so you could go in an dribble over the Evo in the showroom while you wait - I did!

Hi Mace,

Why don't you try Meadens at Sway in the New Forest, I've only dealt with them once but got a good impression, seems they have made a good impression with other people judging by the comments in the comments about dealers section of this website.

Ian.

Meadens are pretty good. I've been using them for a couple of years without any issue :)

Hi,

I bought a car from them! Winchester that is; they where very helpful and quite pleased with service people on two issues had, don't go near the one in Southampton.

But re your seals have you given the Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber Care a go? £5 and solves a lot of issues re creaking seals. OK you should not have to buy and put on but this really works, do about 1-2 months on all the seals and you have a good ride.

Thanks for all the replies please keep them coming very much appreciated

James when did you deal with Winchester last ?

End of 2008. Went too one dealer (not them) in september to have it serviced and had to call RAC on route home! They left brake fluid cap off!!!! So I won't be going back to them any time soon. So a longer trip up to Winchester will be going back too or like people have said the one in Sway gets good reviews

We need to know ! LOL Sparshatts ???

I always use Winchester Motor Co and they have done several bits of warranty work for me , one fix took three attempts but to their credit they sorted it in the end. Creaking front suspension, new ARB and then new bushes. Delaminating rear screen - screen replaced. Fautly rear speaker - replaced. No arguements all work covered.

Thanks for the info

I have bought from Meadens and used them for few bits (service department) they have been very good, in fact very different from Sparshatts where i got my Scooby and had all the service work done, in fact sparshatts are pretty badly thought of in scooby circles.

Hi All,

This is my first post so go easy on me!

I had a bad experience with a new Skoda dealer in North Hampshire last month. A simple issue of being put on the wrong service schedule after my first service. Resulted in a 50 mile round trip to rectify which they weren't able to after having the car in the bay for 15 minutes because they needed the master password to reset it but the master technician was the only person who knew this and he was on holiday for two weeks!! I was asked to come back when he was back at work. Will be using independents from now on.

Cheers,

Dan

Weve had 3 skodas, all serviced & repaired by Winchester including a fair amount of warranty work because Im a picky bugger. Always had excelent service & straight honest answers on the few occasions I presented them with awkward issues.

Just ordered our 4th Skoda & will place it in their care.

Going back just over 18 months now but I bought a used 18 month old Octy from Winchester and had the turbo ingest itself after a month and ended up with a new engine/turbo.intercooler/exhaust system all done under warranty and with an Octy courtesy car for 6 weeks while my car was off the road with no questions asked, I'd recommend them and still use them for servicing now

The point of my first post was that I have heard good things about Winchester Skoda and some of the above posts back this up. I think searching forums can be a bit biased as there is a tendency to post negative experiences (even some of them are a bit unfair and selective about the facts) sooner than positive ones.

Think you may be right there its natural for people to post when things cause grief as opposed to when they go right .

The main problem I have found with Winchester is that they seem to need a bit of a kicking to get things done, especially servicing stuff. Some of the servicing staff are a bit slow-witted and the car is NEVER clean when you get it back.

Sounds just like HENDY FORD only better LOL

At least they won't scratch it! Or make it smell like a taxi.... Like one Honda dealer did to my old car years ago.

What people that posts good/bad about them hear should really post a review at:

I for one wish i took it back to them for a 1st service rather then the monkeys 25 miles away, everyone can make mistakes but it how one puts them right is key. Winchester motor co where really helpful when bought, got good deal, did some extra work for free and on the one other time went back was 1st rate!

I went in with an Octy MK I, bonnet was fine and came out with a spanner sized dent, when I suggested they must have caused it as it was not there before hand , I was told no they didn't.

After that I stopped using them.

My car's previous owner used them for their servicing, as they were their local dealer. Having given it a thorough going-over when I got it, there were a few minor things that jumped out. For instance, it was given its 50,000 mile + 5 year service 2 months before I bought it (and had been standing on the forecourt for most of that time), yet the area around the power steering reservoir was full of leaves, which suggests they didn't bother checking that (despite it being on the service sheet). The air filter and pollen filters were also very grubby...

Obviously, one cannot be certain, as I wasn't in possession of the car then, etc, but still ... didn't look good ...

I often wonder when buying a car that was just serviced by the garage (any garage) that is now selling said car it if they just tick the box stamp the book and if very lucky change the oil if not even the filter........

Ah ... They didn't sell it to WMC, but an independent, who then sold it on (to me ;)). I'd hope they actually did something to it for the service, as the 50k/5yr service included the cambelt, etc, and was a rather large bill for the previous owner! ;)
