Correct oil type for a TDi...

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have an Octavia 1.9TDi 130hp. It's on the QG1 service programme, so needs the long life oil specified in the service schedule. However the exact type required isn't clear.

The schedule (pg 10) says to use VW 506 00 (diesels except ATD engines) or VW 506 01 (diesels).

My engine code is ASZ (found through much detective work), so seemingly I can use either kind. But is one more preferrable than the other?

(Also -- is the VW code a type of oil in itself, or a standard specification that can apply to various types of oil? My local Skoda garage for instance is using a longlife grade of Castrol, and I'm not sure if it's the same thing.)

Cheers,

Will.

Castrol SLX II is long life oil and meets the 506 01 iirc that your car needs.

Yes 0-W-30 Longlife is what I "feed" my octi with :D

Oooops, Sorry ... had to edit : I
