Masking xenon lights

Featured Replies

OK spoken to Skoda UK - no maxidot just the trip, no ability to manual adjust only option is dealer to change - advised chargeable item........ as i leave 4am sat will be driving in the dark - Skoda UK quote ' don’t think that is illegal as lots of people do it' - asked them if they would like to pay my fine if i get pulled up.......

tried to discuss why i was not informed about this when i bought the car as discussed trips abroad etc and just now bounced back to dealer saying discuss with them

The xenon’s just happened to be on the car as it was not a bespoke build so why on earth did Skoda build it without the maxidot as well - crazy for £130 on a £20k car...........

like others say many don’t bother but if you do get pulled the French police are not sympathetic to you so i don’t think it is worth the risk personally........

Anyway off for a 'discussion' with the dealership that sold me what is otherwise a really nice car and soiled but an irritating minor feature........ need to sort something as go to France 5/6 times a year and i don’t want to have to go to and fro to the dealer before and after each trip let alone pay then to make the adjustments...........

Send shark_90 (Ben) a PM about retrofit Maxidot, suspect it will save you a small fortune in the long run if you head to France on a regular basis...

ok interesting as just had another phone call from someone at skoda uk who was far more helpful but confirmed that it was not possable to retro fit the maxidot - they say its dealer job only

unfortunatly that is not the answer - he cant fit to the 2010 model so it appears retro fit is not an option at the current time either

I feel heated discusion with the dealer comming uo but not sure where that is going to get me......

looking at all the postings on this topic it seems skoda just are not informing people of the potential issue which is very poor in this day and age when trips in to europe are commoin place

Do we have any come back on them for not informing us?

Yes good point, but in France and perhaps elsewhere it is illegal to dazzle on coming traffic, and these days the French police are less forgiving towards les rosbifs.

Agreed, but how many people carry at least one hi-viz cest in the vehicle which must be accessible without having to get out, also either the original or a colour copy of the vehicle V5 a warning triangle and of course your green card insurance, further to all that each vehicle must carry a complete set of replacement bulbs - and having xenons is no excuse - failure to comply with any of the above warrants an on the spot €60 fine.....................baring all that in mind perhaps you should fly instead, when the bloody volcano stops spewing out ash that is!

Hi Simon, I've been away from forum for sometime - curious to find out if you got any satisfaction from dealer.

I'm going to find out if it is legal for an EU car manu to sell a car in UK which cannot be legally driven in any other EU country. AFAIK this is why lights on Uk cars must be able to be "masked" either mechanically or electronically.

In theory, yes it's a good idea thinking about maxidot. But (even though I love my maxidot), mine was retrofitted (courtesy of Ben at Shark), and there's quite a few options not there as they would be in the factory fitted unit. (eg vehicle status menu is missing)

It would be a lot of money to shell out for a retrofit maxidot if that option doesn't actually appear once the maxidot is in place.

Mike

Vehicle Status menu? Never seen that, and my maxidot is factory fit...

Sorry, my mistake, it's not vehicle status -- that's the one if you have a bulb out or a door open.

What the retrofit is missing is the convenience menu, which has the central lock , alarm chirp, convenience mode, mirror adjust, rain closing and various light options

Mike

Ahh, you mean the useful one, especially if you plan on accessing the tourist mode of OP's Xenon lights...

Can't comment on the xenon lights as mine hasn't got factory xenons!

Just checked the manual, it looks like Travel Mode is a separate section... (I don't have the Xenons either)

Hi

Just picked up my new SKODA Scout from the dealer yesterday. At the time of placing the order I asked for Xenon lights with Maxidot display - unfortunately I am now being told by my dealer that I cannot have Maxidot on the Scout.

So now I am stuck with Xenon lights that I cannot change to the European mode easily each time I travel to the continent ! It actually says it on my order form - Maxidot. A really nice car but feeling disappointed that I was mislead.

Any ideas suggestions please ?

You have to reject car asap otherwise you will be stuck with it. I speak from experience - going to dealer every time you want to travel to Europe is no fun not to mention the potential wrath of the police if you have an accident on the way to the port and its down to your having xenons adjusted for Europe.

So retrofit maxidot could be a waste of time and money for those of us who opted for xenons. Out of interest what useful stuff would a retrofit have?

Maxidot can be ordered with any Octavia (except S trim, and it's standard on Greenline and L&K), so inform the dealer you will drive the car you've just collected until the one you ordered arrives

Have had my FL Scout for a few months now & confirm it came with maxidot, so sounds as though the dealer is giving you a load of bull droppings - suggest you follow Raglits advice.

Guys - thank you very much for those replies and suggestions - Can someone please confirm that they have Xenon lights on a Skoda Scout 2010 model and can change to the European / touring mode

via the Maxidot computer as described in the manual. This would solve my issue with the dealer. How can I get a definitive answer to this question - Thanks again !
