maxidot repair is it possible

Featured Replies

Hi all thanks for having a look....

I have been given a superb for the misses to run the kids round in great i here you all say.

But found out there are a few things that need to be sorted.

like

river under the carpets.

rear door will not open Central locking.

interior lights not working when door opened.

puddle light on drivers door not working.

So I am going through the process of sorting the corroded loom out hope fully fix the above. wish me luck :)

I also have a problem with the maxidot.

first there is a line through it (a line of dead pixels)

and secondly when I had the carpets up and took the car out for a long drive with the heating on

trying to dry the floor out gradually the maxidot started to fade (yes fade loosing the brightness from the top downward)

after leaving the car for a few hours it started to work fine again (maybe heat related to dry solder joints possibly)

I cannot seem to find any thing on this fault any where has this happened to any one else!!

can any one suggest how to remove or maybe have some pictures of the pcb

There are a couple of places that do repair them, rather than just swap them out.

Try http://www.clusterrepairsuk.co.uk/. I have used them in teh past and they are really pretty good. Not cheap, but good.

I seem to remember a line of dead pixels on my last 3 Superb's I think it is normal, it's like a dividing partition, if you can call it that between the Automatic gear display - if you have an auto, and the rest of the display.

Cannot help about fading display though, I know the display is supposed to get brighter if you shine a light on the little circle under the '0' on the speedo.

Double post... sorry.

Thanks all for the input.

Managed to to seal the pollen filter housing up at the weekend will check it for leaks tonight.

Does any body know how much the plastic strip that runs along the front window is and maybe a part number (mine had a few cracks in it and when i took it out it snapped in half )

Didnt have a chance to find a way to get the maxidot out. may have to wait till next weekend. :(

Not sure of te price, but get it ordered and fitted ASAP, without it all the rain from the windscreen will pour straight through the pollen filter!

In the mean time (if it's going to rain) cover the filter up with a plastic bag or similar.

Funny enough I had to do this to a B5 Passat last Saturday.

I resealed it with a 10cm sausage of Dum Dum Gum.

I also took the battery out and cleaned out the drainage hole underneath the tray while I was there.
