Engine Management light on Fabia 1.4 16v

Featured Replies

Hello,

New to this but would like some help. Our fabia 1.4 Elegance on 52 plate, 25k has run fantastically well until just recently. After a few weeks after its annual service, the Engine Management light came on but flashing. The engine was not running well. We got the car to the dealer next day and they could not find anything wrong and reset the light. All Ok for a 40-50 miles and then came back on again, but this time permanently. engine and car running fine. took it in again and this time it was the EGRV. They reset it and a few days later it came back on again!.. Same error so valve replaced at considerable cost. Car ran fine for 3 days approx 60 miles and then back with the flashing engine management light and running poorly. it's going back in again tomorrow. can any body suggest what the problem could be? - the Skoda dealer can’t seem to find the right answer.

Thanks

About two years ago our EGM came on (comfort 16v - x plate) Spent about a grand or so replacing bits and bobs as per the VAG-COM. IN the end my mechanic (indp) and I thought **** it. Car was running beautifully and we decided to leave alone. 2 years later - 2 MOT's later - 2 Services later and about 20,000 miles later - the light is still on and the car is still running great. Mechanic say's the EGM systems are uber sensitive and generally wholly unecessary.

After irritating the t*its off me in the beginning - the EGM has now become my little yellow friend, who keeps me company on long drives! Monitor oil and petrol consumption and how the car handles/drives and learn to love the EGM for all it's inadequacies

Thanks for such a quick reply. that is where I got to when the light was on all the time. it's flashing now and the engine is not running well so posiibly something else?

Could be something as simple as an ignition coil or a spark plug problem. If you're in the AA, call them out, they'llplug it in and diagnose it for you.

I hope is not the piston rings-EGR valve-breather problem in 1.4 16V AUB engines. Search for EGR piston on this forum there are few threads about it, try to put super 98 ron petrol as this engine likes that, what oil did you use?

Had a similar problem with my 1.4 , engine management light showing intermitantly on then on all the time. Engine was apparently running fine , this went on for 6 months . Had the car looked at by an independant garage with a diagnostic computer link - diagnosis was problem with spark plugs / coils - remeday change the plugs then wait & see . Result ! no warning light ..........for a whole 24 hours . Ran the car for a further 9 months with the light on then it went out and its never returned. These warning / advisory lights are a usfull tool but so are your own senses as to how your car sounds/feels. So be warned the electronic idiot lights are not foolpoof.

Thanks to all that replied..I have been tied up with other things so did not get back to the posts as soon as I wanted to. The engine light problem got solved by changing the coils! So i am wondering why I had to have the EGR changed for £280 just before by teh same gagrage!

Anyhow thanks all.

I have a new problem with the car which I'll post separately.

Thanks for posting feedback on how that problem was cured.

Hi, Do you remember the part number or details of the coils you changed on your 52 reg Fabia Elegance? I may require the same coils as I have the same model, so a part number or anything to identify them may help me find the correct coil/s for mine!! Thanks in advance.

Sorry to drag up an old thread as a new member, but I've just bought a 2001 1.4 16V and within a five miles the engine light came on. Everything seems to be fine it's running well enough but I'd like to check if this is a common problem?.

The plan is to do the Cambelt next week as it's gone it's whole life so far without a change, (which seems a tad optimistic to me!) so if is there anything else I should get my spanner man to look at whilst it's in bits?.

Also noticed the point about 98 RON fuel, and also saw that in the technical data book, is there any genuine benefit with it?, it does seem a little odd to tune what is essentially a fairly 'normal' sort of car to need 98 RON.

The engine mangement light can come on for any number of reasons.......you need to have a fault code reader or a VCDS diagnostics machine to read the code.

AS for the 98RON............getting 100bhp from a non-turbo 1.4lt engine when it first came out was not "normal"..........it needs it to prevent long term problems!
