Skoda Octavia II ride quality

Featured Replies

I have a 2005 Skoda Octavia II 2.0 PD 140. I have owned the car for nearly a year now however I have one issue with it, and that is the ride quality.

If you hit a pot hole or a damaged piece of road, then you really feel it, it's terrible over speed humps too. I have also noticed that if you are on a dual carriage way and hit a bump then the car seems to wobble, even a very small bump in the road.

Mine is the Elegance model with the 16" wheels and the tyres are approx 32psi all round.

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Whats the mileage on your car. Shocks probably need replacing anywhere as early as 40k miles, then you have worn bushes, worn drop links etc. All of these together can seriously affect ride quality and handling. Most people don't really notice the decline as its very gradual and happens over a number of years. You only really notice how bad your car is if you jump into a new one or you get those components looked at and changed.

Tyres make a difference too. Just switched to Vred Sessantas and they are clearly more compliant than the Contis they replaced.

I never rated the ride on my Elegance. My vRS is less crashy. Weird but true.

Hmmm. That is strange.

Thanks for the replies, I was thinking that was one of the components that Skoda skimped on to make them cheaper than the volkswagens and audi's.

IIRC you can get solid rear wishbone bushes rather than voided ones for certain Audi, VW and Seat models, but only the sporty versions.

I've read a few road tests on the Octavia II and they all say that the ride quality at low speeds is harsh because the suspension is tightly sprung.

Since changing the Rear Anti Roll Bar for a decent one, the ride in my Octy has improved no end.

Do not mean the increase in rear roll stiffness but a general smoothness over all surfacesgiving a much more supple ride.

The standard bar is just a bent hollow tube and seems to weld itself onto the standard bushes so seems to upset the whole ride of the car.
