1.4 mpi

Featured Replies

Alright guys and girls.

Can anyone tell me some good cheap ways to get some more power and fuel economy out of my fabia?

Cheers =]

You wont get a lot of extra power i'm afriad, and certainly no better MPG.

Maybe Exhaust, Induction kit, Superchip. :thumbup:

Don't bother with an induction kit IMO (unless you want it to be noisier). I am highly impressed with the air intake system on the 1.4mpi, more than enough direct air flow for the engine's requirements. Just renew the standard air filter.

Bosch super 4 spark plugs FR78 (not FR78X as these have a bigger gap) claim reduced fuel usage and increased bhp. I can't detect the increase in power and I am sure the mpg will be minimal too.

I think the real key thing to check on the 1.4mpi is that the thermostat is ok. The original thermostat has a crap design and clips break off. This is a revised and better part http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Skoda-Fabia-1-0-1-4-Mpi-Thermostat-BRAND-NEW_W0QQitemZ390141639351QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item5ad640fab7 To check if the thermostat is ok all you need to do is remove the temp sender with the system stone cold. You undo the connector on the top, slide out the horseshoe clip, then pull out the temp sender. It may be a good idea to have a spare o ring for it handy. If you can move the thermostat inside in any way then it needs replacing. I found that the symptoms of my failed one were slow warm up, especially with the heater on full blast.

Stick some redex in the fuel tank as well. No idea if it does anything but so long as it doesn't do any harm, it doesn't cost much, so any benefits will be worthwhile.
