hi i have just bought a skoda felicia 1.6 glxi laurent and clement and i have a starting problem where the engine turns over but wont start but will if its bumped or put batt in charge to give it a boost

it has loads of new parts which i will list

I have since Christmas replaced 1,Thermostat, 2, coolant sensor, 3,Battery,4,Starter motor, 5 ,Distributor .ignition coil

What happens now is that it will start OK for a week or two and then stop ,the engine turns over but nothing,I've worked out if I take the battery off and give it a bit of a boost it starts .It also bump starts.I have no idea what is wrong

is there anyone who could help me?? does anyone think it could be alternator voltage regulator ???? the battery light doest not come on so im a bit miffed what it could be i would like to know any ideas before i go to a garage and can anyone reccomend anyone ie whos good with skodas in wolverhampton

I think from what you've said it pretty much has to be the alternator or regulator. If it is, you should show under 12v from the battery, even with the engie running, although there is a common regulator failure mode where the alternator over-voltages, and can fry the ECU. The good news is that the regulator on that alternator is a separate part.

thanks for the reply i shall go and get a regulator then are they expensive to buy ?? as i know hardly anything when it comes to cars its all a learning process for me i bought the felly for 350 with the known problem just hope i didnt pay to much !!

BTW. I think the price you paid seems fair (without seeing the condition of the car or knowing of any other possible faults with it).

They are quite rare are these L&K's and it is spelt Laurin & Klement too not Laurent.

As far as I know there were roughly 100 hatch back and 100 estate Laurin & Klement felcias made.

well the condition of the car is the interior ie carpets really do need steam cleaning or replacing has rust on drivers door and rear arches nothing to bad tho as i thought this was the norm on skodas glad this is a rare car im going to get a leather cleaning kit and get the car steam cleaned as it needs it it has 945000 miles on the clock even if it lasts me a year it will be money well spent

just hope when i get my voltage regulator that cures my starting problem:)
