Hello chaps,

I have an Octavia SDI and an Superb 2.5TDI. Both cracking cars :)

Unfortunately, I recently suffered an issue with the Superb so was recommend to post here.

A few days ago, I was making my way up a slight incline, as I neared the crest, I applied some throttle and was met with what I can only describe as a tapping noise, linear with engine revs. I instantly let off the throttle and the noise disappeared. I then re-tried to hear the same sound again. I immediately pulled over and waited to be recovered.

Before the wagon arrived, I started up the engine to reverse into a parking space as I was jutting out into the road slightly. Upon turning the key, the engine was 'booming' again, linear with engine revs. I immediately shut off and the vehicle made it's way to the garage.

Any ideas what may have gone wrong here? From hearing the initial tapping noise to pulling over was approximately 5-10 seconds. On turning the engine over the BOOM noise was heard for about 2 seconds. It didn't sound good!

The car has been the epitome of reliability until this point.
