Nice one Brimma, point well proven.

I am considering the self tuning system but need convincing on it's abilities. Is it ever going to be as good as getting Ben to tune the car himself ? I want to get away from having a generic map, would rather pay extra for someone who knew what they were doing.

Exactly the sts will never be as good because he cannot test the car to make sure all is ok. The sts is more like a postal remap imo.

I have the STS unit but lived locally to Ben, so I didnt have to read the original map and email it him. Ben just copied it direct to his computer and uploaded it to an STS unit. He doesnt use generic maps. Ben actually looks at the data on the original map and looks at what the car is asking for at different rev ranges. He then alters it to suit. In effect you are getting a custom map and one that is very good! Ben understands these cars engines very well. The map he did for my car was spot on the first time and can tailor make them to suit your requirements. Ben just emails the map to you and you upload it to the STS unit. Plug it in to your car and you are away. It really is as simple as that!

Thanks guys.

I've just heard back from Ben on email re the STS unit. It appears that it is just as good as going to see him but without any of the draw backs of driving 5 hours each way for me at least. It also appears that the vag group of cars have intelligent ecu's so learn your style of driving and arrange the power delivery/full economy to suit you as you drive. This is different in my previous experience of tuning subaru's.

In any case, Ben has really put my mind at ease and I'll be going for the STS kit shortly. This news won't please my brother however who has a Fabia vRS and was looking to get his car mapped at the same time as me. Can't please them all eh :'(

I have an STS unit and have no problem with it , it is really easy to use and the results will speak for themselves , plus it can also read and clear faults. The fact that i can install and remove the map myself without traveling a long way was also a big plus point.

I'm getting an STS too, sent an email to Ben today, and will purchase soon for my Scout TSi.
