vRS TDI Remap

Featured Replies

I'm sure this has been asked to death but is there a consensus on which cars will have dpf issues once remapped or is it a hit or miss ???

Really considering a remap by Shark (probably the self tuning route) as I cant be bothered with the drive to and from Edinburgh. Nowhere local seems any good and having read about problems wth Celtic Tuning maps being torque happy at low rpm and nothing else I've opted not to go with them. It did seem to good to be true in that my nearest dealer offered to remap my car for £200 !! He did mention however that he'd never mapped a 170 vrs before so confidence faded quickly.

Any help/advice greatly appreciated. Also, some advice on what else to consider at the same time as mapping e.g. replacement filter, dpf removal etc etc.

James.

If you have a PD170 you will have DPF issues inasmuch as any remap will increase the amount of soot deposited in the dpf and thus the regeneration cycles will be more frequent. This is not a problem however.

My car was remapped by P-Torque, an excellent mapping in all respects- I expected the car to regenerate more and it does.

No surprise there.

However, for a map to cause dpf problems, ie sensor failure, going into limp mode, thats a different thing entirely.

Not sure where you are located, but I'm in Carlisle and a local tuner called chip-it has had good reports- run by a polish guy called Wiktor who knows his stuff apparently

Otherwise, Bluefin could be worth considering?

So dpf regen will increase but that's to be expected then yeah ? I've never had to regen the dpf as yet but understand how to if the light pops on

Is p-torque near carlisle then?

Cheers.

Normally the DPF will regen itself automatically. This is signified by a higher than normal idling speed and the fans coming on. There is a good thread somewhere that explains what this is all about (getting the exhaust temperature up to burn off the soot).

The type of driving that you do is probably more relevant. If you are stuck in traffic alot or do lots of short trips with the engine not getting up to temperature, you will get more regens. Normally a few longer, higher speed trips sort this out. I rarely get a regen (no re-map either), but with the recent cold weather and the car sitting on the path idling whilst I got the ice off it, has caused it to occur.

Cool. I've only had the car since the end of December 09 and my daily journey to/from work is a mixture of A1 and city driving (around 17 miles each way) but never had to regen it yet.

I think I'll still consider a remap but will shop around for a reputable tuner before jumping in.

Thanks again, James.

I have Superchip's Bluefin on my vRS TDI (PD170).

It gives a good amount of extra power/torque but with no extra regeneration. There are two further benefits 1) you can do a DIY install and 2) Superchips provide a warranty to cover the OE one in event of any (unlikely) problems.

Cheers.

Cool. I 'm going down the STS route so it won't matter anymore.
