has anyone else on here had the top of their oil filler cap fall of and disappear. this has happened to me twice now with oem oil filler caps.

Chances are that it has not gone far, under the engine is the plastic undertray, which is secured by some torx screws. Undo a couple of screws from one side, and pull down the tray and have a look. It may be trapped in there.

Oil filler cap came off my old MK4 Golf TDI 110 . I fitted new one and found that its spring was much stronger than the old one. Its easy not to notice the reduction in spring strength over the years as it happens so slowly. Caps are fairly cheap - about £3 from memory

Thanks for that as i was beginning to think i was going mad as i can't remember ever leaving the cap off etc.
