Thanks for that. I think that someone posted a link to this on an earlier Yeti thread but worth watching for all those who missed it before (and who like engines!)

Thanks, very interesting - it is a reminder that the 1.2 TSI and DSG combination gives a lower CO2 output than the manual version in the Polo, so why so much higher than the manual in the Yeti?

Has anybody come up with an answer yet?

Well i never realised the 1.2 TSi was an 8 valve engine. How retro!

I know its quite strange it is 8v always thought it was 16v maybe its to do with getting enough lowdown torque to reduce any turbo lag? Either that or its the 85bhp one which has just been launched and the 105bhp has 16v.

The use of eight valves I believe is down to improved design and production techniques regarding the inlet and outlet ports and obviously 16v increase frictional drag taking power away from the engine.

The video talks about the 77 KW engine which is the 105bhp one. It definately seems to be to do with reducing friciton according to the video. I suppose there's a small weight saving as well with less valves and only one camshaft.

It's funny though as when I started driving a having a car with 4V per cylinder was very exotic. About the only mass market one was the Triumph Dolomite Sprint.

Now my Yeti is going to be exotic because it's only got 2V per cyliner! :giggle:

If it breathes well enough on two valves and a single cam fine! I noticed that as well. I think Two valves give better low down torque and I think this is why TVR adopted single cam two valves per bank on its very exotic AJP8 engine for the Cerbera ( before that firm was wound up by Russian asset strippers)
