Superb Estate 1.4 TSI

Featured Replies

Have been asking the same thing in other topic, but haven't got any response, and as I'm going to the dealer tomorrow morning and need answers quickly I started a new topic, so ....

I'm looking at Superb Estate 1.4 TSI, but would like to hear from somone who has driven it, if it has enough power for a normal family car use? I'm not looking for some sporty dynamic ride, just everyday ride, without having to gear down too much.

What I mean is, when you need to overtake a car, can you do it without pushing it to its limits and if you have to, is it fast enough with even loaded car (3-4 person)?

And if loaded and going uphill on motorway, does it strugle a lot and you have to go to 5th gear, or it does the job just fine?

Thank you very much for your comments,

Tomson

I do not think many people have driven one yet, but for my money it

would not have enough torque low down for such a heavy car...

I've borrowed a 1.4TSI Superb one day I had my 3.6 Superb for a check. Of cause you can't compare the experiences as the 1.4 is not a quick car. It behaved nicely however and I didn't have a feeling it was having a too hard time. I did not have full load or run at very high speeds so I can't tell where its limits are.

I've seen two Danish tests where the 1.4 TSI destroyed the competitors because the 1.4 TSI is a efficient engine - even though the competitors had bigger engine but without turbo.

Here is an example of a test where the Superb 1.4TSI beats Avensis III 1.8 and Insignia 1.8 - mostly because of the engine. Its Google translated so its hard to understand.

Uh, nice, tnx for the link, will read it right away.

If it comes from someone who owns 3.6 (It behaved nicely), it really should perform just ok.

And if 1.4 TSI outperforms 1.8 Avensis and 1.8 Insignia, that's all I need to know and all the power I need. :-)

Playing with numbers, the fact is if Octavia 1.4TSI performs very good with it, and it weights 1285kg vs Superb 1420kg which is 135kg difference, so as I understand it is the same as if in Octavia there were 3 passengers or 1 passenger in Superb, it should perform the same ...

This I don't understand completly, does it mean the competitors consuption is 14 liters/100-km or when 1.4TSI turbo starts it goes to 14l/km or is this not consuption of liters per 100km at all?

"Competitors are almost stationary when leaving Superb turbo work, but somehow still out with a modest average consumption of 14.7 km / l."

As the 1.4tsi engine is from volkswagen, it is also being used in the passat estate to replace the 1.6fsi engine, because volkswagen could not get the emissions down in that engine, so it should be quite capeable.

From the linked articles:

Superb: 14,7 km/l

Avensis: 15,4 km/l

Insignia: no numbers

I think it is average mileage but the articles are not very precise on this. I think you should rely more on official numbers than on these articles.

The 1.4 should be ok for a couple, but full loaded it would struggle a bit at motorway speeds and hills (i.e put your foot down at 60-70mph to ovetake and not a lot would happen), but with a couple or alone should be fine doing this. why not go for the 1.8?

One and only reason: 2300€ that I cannot afford and more expensive ensurance and registration.

Anyway, today I was at my dealer and I ordered 1.4 TSI Superb Combi ... 6-8 weeks and smile on my face! :)

In Denmark or the Netherlands they often express comsumption this way. It's really meant like this, so 14,7 km/l is the same then: 1/14,7 * 100 = 6,8 litres on 100 km. 15,4 would then be 6,5 l/ 100 km. Must be the official EU-average consumption (for the Skoda I know it's 6,8 l/100 km), not the consumption reached in the car-test.

In the end how has the 1.4TSI Superb Combi been especially re real life driving and economy..
