225 45 17 tyres will they fit a VRS?

Featured Replies

Have the standard VRS Octavia Mk1 with 205/50/17 tyres. Can I put a set of 225/45/17 tyres on them?

Yes you can, its a common change. I did the same when I had my old vRS.

Nice darts thanks for that. My missus just got a quote for £143 for a single 205/50/17 Conti3!!!! So looking at going the 225/45/17 route to save some cash.

Do you think it will make a mjor difference to driving?

You dont really notice any change, well except the wallet as the 225s are more common and hence cheaper.

You know that! Thnaks for the heads up. Oh whilst you are answering what is the pcd is it ET32 5X100?

I'm getting 4 fitted tomorrow, £308 for Conti 3's. I'll let you know how they compare.

I am not sure of the ET for the vRS wheels, but yes it is 5x100.

Yep, it's a place in Macclesfield in Cheshire: www.allnewtyres.co.uk

I'll let you know how they are service wise. BTW, the f1 GSD 3's will drop off the website as he can't get stock!

Contis arent the best. Id opt for something else.

In what way? I've had them on quite a few of my past motors and found them to be pretty good, miles better than the P zero rosso's on my current Merc.

Id have probably opted for the Eagle F1 Asymmetrics at around £75 each. They won the EVO test recently.

I'm currently just finishing a set of them off at the moment - down to 3mm all round. They are amazing tyres for dry weather grip and very reassuring in the wet. However, when the temperature falls below 5/6 degrees celcius, they aren't as sure footed. In the snow and on ice they are pretty much useless. Also, you'll find they don't last very long. Mine have done about 14k and the previous Contis did 23k to the same point. However, the Contis are in no way as good for outright grip and confidence.

Just back from having them fitted, only had to wait 10 mins whilst the fitters finished a car in front of me, good service, wheels all torque, care taken with the rims etc...

Initial thoughts on the drive home is that they're soo better than the mismatch of ditchfinder generals which were all very worn (evenly though). Too early to do a review on them but the car drives so much better it gives me a nice warm feeling.....!

Been my local tyre place for years that.

Out of interest, what's the rim width on a vRS wheel? Is it 7"?
